Gothic 3

Quests like Clearing Ortegas Cave
How are you supposed to take on them besides constantly abusing retarded AI and luring out single enemies? Its early game quest and its impossible to complete it in any reasonable way. Im used to that with Gothic series already but putting like 20 dudes in same agro zone is insane and unless youre some fighting system god I cant imagine completing it in, im guessing, intended way.

Sure you can take Cyrus/Copper but it doesnt make this ♥♥♥♥ any less tedious.

If it's too hard, come back to it later.

Or, yeah, aggro and use ranged to soften them up then finish off with melee.

It is quite tough early on, but doable. Oh, and I always get Cyrus/Copper killed. Oops.

Kill them one by one and spam the bow :) Knock down arrows can be useful if you drew 2 guys from the cave.

I drew a pack of wolves inside to keep them busy and then shoot them in the back while they get spammed by the wolves.

Cyrus died when I brought him to Ortega's room but he held out long enough for me to thin them with the bow. I don't suppose you can be good enough at melee at that point to take them on CQC

I went another route, armed at this time with just a Hunting Bow [ 50 damage ], and put myself on a wall in front of the main campfire/ cooking pot area and blasted away, retreating when they got too close, jumping back and firing shots when they moved deeper back into the cave. In this way, I made short work of Ortega and his men, rescuing the lamp oil .

fireball = easy mode

I finished the quest last night by pulling a couple at a time. Since I'm on Hard/AAI/AB, my damage is so pathetic I have to play Legolas, jumping and running around to kill them. But it worked.

And then the town revolution afterwards was nuts.

Just really wish the game had better AI/pathfinding. I try not to abuse it, though, but it would be much better if they could reach you on certain rocks, or on a roof and what not. The enemy archery is basically broken.

the combat has always been a weak point for this game, even with the adjustments. For single combat it has always been the stunlock for the win. For multiple enemies combat, you have to glitch because so many attack you at once, for most of the game. You simply do not have the DPS to do otherwise.

I like the melee combat a lot, though. With some tweaks it could be great. The archery is great fun, but also needs a lot of tweaks.

My personal proposals - Make the lock-on more like G2, where you have to sidestep enemy attacks. I love the timing-based melee, though, in G3. It's fast, hard and rewarding. Timing blocks, quick attacks and the like. Not sure if holding the attack does a power attack, though. Does it? That should be added as well, similar to Risen 3.

For archery, running backwards + shooting needs to either be a very advanced skill you learn later, or penalized more at the start. For one, speed should matter, so you shouldn't be able to outrun a wolf or something. There should be some enemies you can't outrun. The sidestep in melee should be a trained skill as well, a dodge or defensive move. Training defense should matter as well.

I also play in first-person. It's great fun, but the system is just mostly broken, first or third person.

Maybe the DPS could be higher or enemies could die quicker. Not sure there, but I know on Hard/AB/AAI, the game was brutally difficult at first. Even after leveling up, the progression is slow, which is cool, but I felt the progression was a bit more noticeable in G2. I'm sure that's the Alternative Balancing in effect, though. And I can go through so many arrows killing things. More risk/reward should be there. Maybe when an enemy rushes up on you, and you aren't trained in archery, you have to defend yourself with melee more. Just random thoughts.

I have never actually played it on hard. Although I did play it on original release, prepatch anything. Tried reloading that version from original disc, only to find it would not run on W8.1. :(

You do have two attacks, but holding the heavy attack is for executions.

I had played the game with bow/crossbow/melee combo, the battles were much harder and much more epic. I imagine even moreso today with the rebalance nerf making stats cost a lot more after 250.

Anyway the game is done. I hope one day PB rereleases an updated versions. Their current graphics engine IMO is still a bit flawed. Looking forward to see what they do with ELEX.

Oh I know it's done. I just meant for either a future game like it or what not. But yeah, I'm really excited for ELEX as well. Broken or not I'm really enjoying G3 right now as well.

This thread is ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ on the game if anything. I put little over 30 hours and I cant look at it anymore, amount of fetchquests kills me inside. Considering just putting easy and rushing main quest, but even that seems boring and waste of my time.
Big Sneeze Jul 11, 2017 @ 9:32am
Western RPGs aren't for you then. Skyrim is even worse, the fetch quests there take you back and forth the entire game world. At least Gothic 3 has each quest take place near the place you get the quest.

And all Gothic games have quests you have to come back later when you're stronger to tackle. I finished Ortega's quest way later in the game, when I was over 40 hours in and developed my dude's skills.
