After you install the latest Community Patch, you should also disable Alternative AI in the Options menu (not to be mixed with Alternative Balancing that can be toggled in the Main Menu, leave that on for your first playthrough) . Some people like it, some don't. In my opinion it's not that good and makes the fights unbalanced and frustrating.
I'll give you all the links you need at the bottom of my comment.
So to sum everything up,
1. Run the game at least once, the main menu is enough, and install the latest Community Patch 1.75.14.
2. Install the Update Pack
3. Turn off Alternative AI in the Options menu
4. Play
Community Patch: https://www.worldofgothic.de/dl/download_478.htm
Update Pack: https://www.worldofgothic.de/dl/download_523.htm
All the download links are at the bottom of the page, you only need the .exe files.
Gothic_3_EE_Patch_v1.75.14_Int_Full.exe, the 1.48 GB file and Gothic_3_EE_v1.75_Int_Update_Pack_v1.04.10.exe, the 28.54 MB file.
Remember to install the Community Patch first, then the Update Pack.
What does alternative AI do and why do we want it turned off?
I only recommend turning it off if you're playing the game for the first time.
It changes the way the enemies behave in combat. For example, depending on the difficulty setting you are playing on, different amount of enemies can attack you at once. That is also the case if you have alternative balancing turned on. On easy, only one enemy will swing at you, on medium two and on hard three at once. With Alternative AI turned on they will also try to flank you, instead of hitting you from the front. The blocking also works differently, it now requires a bit of timing, like in G1 and G2. Wild animals also have a different fighting style now. If you spam them with attacks, they will rush through them ignoring all the damage taken and try to hit you, or as it is in Gothic 3, they will likely stunlock you, just to stop you from spamming. It makes the game more challenging, but for a first playthrough i would turn it off and just play with Alternative Balancing + Hard difficulty instead. It's all up to you though. If you like a challenge, play with Alternative AI on, i just personally don't like it that much.
You can read more about it here, although it is in german:

I wouldn't include those on a first play. The Eurojank is strong in the quest pack. Not to mention it isn't voiced. The translation uses English words, but not in sentences I would call English.
