Gothic 3

[help]1.75 cp Combat pointers
Hello everyonne,

Just finished a playthrough of Gothic 2 and started Gothic 3 (didn't play the game since 2006-7), I installed cp 1.75 (through steam beta branch), and I see that there are some changes for the combat.
But is there any strategy involved in melee combat as there was in gothic 2 ?
I tried to understand the pattern of the enemy and to use proper moves, but didn't succeed in finding anything.
At the moment, I am simply mashing the right click.

If anyone can feed me with pointers that would be welcome.

Well, depends on what difficulty you're playing. If it's on easy I don't think you'll need help, besides don't get hit by spells, because there's no such thing such as magic resistance in this game and you will die very easily to spells. When fighting animals and ogres I recommend using a halberd or a spear, because it has longer reach. Most two handers in the game are bad, because they fail at what their point was in the old Gothic games-having a longer range than one handed weapons. The better one handed weapons are Longsword,Bastard Sword,Paladin sword,Katana and Master sword, because they have good reach.I personally prefer the Paladin sword. When fighting a lot of opponents make sure that they don't encircle you because there will be no escape then.If you try to mash stun lock someone while there are other enemies in combat they will hit you from behind,so beware of that.Try to see when animals are going to attack and try to memorize the correct timing when their attack animation ends and they are near you, because then you can hit them.Overall I'd say that when you play the game a bit more you will start to feel the combat system(if you understand me).Just needs practice I guess.

I see. I guess it's just more obscure than G1 and G2 system.
Well, I got so bored and frustrated that I simply started a mage, it's quite efficient, just have to rest a LOT at the beginning.

Playing as a mage is crazy, the begginng is very hard but later on you´ll get bored of spamming meteors and killing everything with no effort. Btw someone really fights ogres in melee? Isn´t much easier to shoot them from good spot?

You can get over 500pts of ancient knowledge just by running all over the map ;)
(And save/loading before talking to stone tablet traders to try and get 4 from each of them)

Once you get to 250 and have 5k gold stop by the ruins of Al Shedim and learn mana regen; once you get mana regen combat is a joke.

So late but yes i fought ogre with melee in a cave below Cape Dun in CP 1.75 with halberd. it need patience for the timing but most of Ogre atk can be dodged by simply moving backward. most safest combo i use is right click once + left click once then move backward. so it's like, wait the ogre to perform animation then immediately move backward without blocking, after the hit sound fx heard immediate go for your weapon range then perform the combo. it sound repetitive but the timing is so crucial that one mistake can punish you hard.
