Well, I got so bored and frustrated that I simply started a mage, it's quite efficient, just have to rest a LOT at the beginning.
(And save/loading before talking to stone tablet traders to try and get 4 from each of them)
Once you get to 250 and have 5k gold stop by the ruins of Al Shedim and learn mana regen; once you get mana regen combat is a joke.
So late but yes i fought ogre with melee in a cave below Cape Dun in CP 1.75 with halberd. it need patience for the timing but most of Ogre atk can be dodged by simply moving backward. most safest combo i use is right click once + left click once then move backward. so it's like, wait the ogre to perform animation then immediately move backward without blocking, after the hit sound fx heard immediate go for your weapon range then perform the combo. it sound repetitive but the timing is so crucial that one mistake can punish you hard.
