looking for advice on whether or not to get this

I'm gonna give it a shot and try to crowdsource opinions to help me decide.

I love Risk of Rain, I love Deadbolt's theme and aesthetic. I was not a huge fan of Hotline Miami from the mechanical standpoint, I didn't even finish that game. I did not play Gunpoint.

Based on that information, what is the chance of me liking the game? I really want to like it, but if it's more or less just Hotline Miami with a different aesthetic, I might pass.

It's a lot sneakier than hotline miami. Missions all have tons of solutions, there's a lot of cool enemy variety and some nice weapon variety, and it's much more about tactical thought than fast action.

I'm like you, I didn't really like hotline miami and never played gunpoint (heard of it though). But Deadbolt is very fun, I suggest giving this game a try if you like stealth.

In my opinion the gameplay mechanics make this game fun, if it were different I wouldn't have bought it. You have to manually aim your shots, throw certain weapons, use cover, and can also hide. All of this in a 2D world, which I find refreshing.

I was a really big fan of RoR, and was worried I wouldn't like Deadbolt because I'm not overly fond of stealth games. Long story short, I said ♥♥♥♥ it, rolled the bones and bought it, and I'm loving it. Some levels can be exceedingly frustrating, but I rarely felt like I had been cheated, just that I had been too slow or too reckless, and needed to refine my tactics. It's not too long, but it's a blast in my opinion, very slick and precise, awesome action, and a very nice soundtrack. Also, the cat is adorable.
