Not a F****** Baba Yaga, but Babayka!
From the John Wick it started, and continues so on...
These two are complete different characters in Russian tales. Baba Yaga -- is an old witch, living in a dark forest. Word "baba" here derives from "babushka" or "babka", means an old elderly woman. Just using "baba" solely is an unpolite slang for women overall. "Yaga" is a name. The reason it was misinterpreted is Baba Yaga sounds similar to Babayka, which in turn is an analog of western character Boogeyman, in a way you use his name to scarry children. So, when you want something to be called cool and tough, you should really refrain from saying he is a Baba Yaga, because that would mean he is an old witch-woman.

Not sure this got into the game via John Wick, there's a lot of stuff related to russian folk for whatever reason. Can agree on "babayka" being more suitable but on the other hand the dev is russian, how would he know :conwayshrug:

Simply because they made a reference to a John Wick movie, which at some degree is popular among western population. You have a skilled killer in movie, same in game. If they would call it "Babayka" instead of "Baba Yaga" it would be absolutely unreasonable and not understandable for you guys, you didn't know who Babayka is before, right?

I am russian so I did know about it like ever since I was born, lel. What's the big deal anyway?

What's the big deal in calling a Boogeyman an old witch-woman? That's one good question, damn it!

...and that's why I'm asking you, what is the big deal? We don't know much about Reaper's or... hell, anyone's personalities! Hell if I know, maybe Reaper was a hardcore female 24-hours-a-day drunk russian assasin.
It's just a name of an achievement, the plot/gameplay/whatever doesn't depend on it. Besides, he already used "Bogeyman" for the name of the level, I think that'd be lame to name the achievement "Bogeyman" as well.
Once again, what gives?

Instead of using "Boogeyman" once more, try "Babayka". Because it is totally relevant to appeal to an old witch-woman living in her chicken-legs-house in a dark forest for a game with its main protagonist being a hitman.
