Admittedly I'm not far in, but I've already decided the best thing about this game.

The ridiculous level of pop culture references is absolute brilliant, so I thought I'd start a list. Feel free to contribute any I've missed, or any more from areas later on so people can keep an eye out.

It's actually Magneto's Costume from XMen. Shredder had full face coverage, Magneto just had top back and sides like you see with that helmet. Also, another confirmation that it's XMen is one of the fighters in the ultimate/rookie fights looks just like Wolverine. Green military pants, plain white wife beater (tank top), and the hairstyle of him too. I believe a random name is givien to him, but mine was named Curtis.

Gym: white bodybuilder is Lou Ferrigno and Pumping Iron reference

2 wrestler references, Hulk Hogan, one of the 5 opponents when you fight for the world championship, and Rey Mysterio, an ultimate fighter in the game is named Rey Maskerio.

When you deliver the special pizza you have to fight crocodiles which are a reference to the ninja turtles plus a master splinter reference appears at the end.

Cafe street, Godfather reference

Behind the bar you meet Tyler Durden from the movie Fight Club.

The muggers are named Hewey, Dewey, and Louie. Those were the names of the three duck brothers in Duck Tales.

The "Some Motivation" perk icons are (I'm guessing) references to the joke scenes in several Stallone and Arnold movies where they walk by a poster of the other guy, stop and compare muscles and marvel at how the other guy is jacked. The "posters" look like the Arnold and Stallone posters, so I'm pretty sure that's what that is alluding to.

Ivangief is an obvious reference to Zangief from Street Fighter series, his appearance is near-identical. Also, I've a feeling that Roy taking your place and fighting Ivangief looked very similar to one of the scenes from a fighting genre movies... not sure, one with Jean-Claude Vandamme?

Song po the first guy you fight in the silver league is a reference to Tong po from kick boxer

a Chuck norris character is in the play offs

Kano from street fighter is one of the gang war bosses

Brandon Lee is in the play offs and bruce lee is either a gang war boss or a boss in the champion league (dragon lee and master lee are their names in game if im right)

theres more i just cant think of it now my next play through (turtle style just beat it with str and my first run was agil) I will keep an eye out and update this

Sort of a stretch but Punching tree in russia could be a kick boxer reference as well.


The bear fight in russia could be a reference to two things.. Kuma from Tekken or Yujiro Hanma slaying a bear from Baki the grappler. It probably isn't either of these but they are a possbillity

Some not mentioned ***spoilers***

- The Bar is also stylized in the exact manner as the one in the movie Fight Club
- Tylers "cousin" is Mickey from the movie "Snatch" (both played by Brad Pitt), the dog with the chew toy and trailer without wheels from the movie appear there.
- Din King is Don King, famous boxing promoter.
- Travelling to Russia takes a lot from Rocky IV. Apollo takes Rockys place and dies like Roy, The cabin and training equipment are the same that Rocky uses and the fight arena is similarly styled to the one where Rocky fights Drago, curtains, two men watching etc.
- I believe I saw The Grinch running around in the background of the Russia area
- Chinatown has Drunk Master, a reference to a Jackie Chan movie
- Long Timer perk has a TARDIS from Dr. Who
- Rice Eater is the fly catching scene from Karate Kid
- Technician, the bullet dodge scene from The Matrix
- DieHard, dressed like John McClane
- Cobra Strike might be Dannys final kick against the Cobra Kai in Karate Kid
- Iron Curtain, the divide between Europe and the Soviet Union
- I think Berserker might be a reference to Conan The Barbarian, they are similarly dressed
- Mr Y. might be a reference to Darkman who is similarly burnt
- The Warehouse also has a crate labelled "Top Secret Army Intel", the same as the crate that appears at the end of Raiders of the Lost Ark
- The hint screens early in the game feature "the annoying paper clip" from an earlier version of microsoft word
- Doing the criminal work for Big Bobo you're dressed similarly to the gang from The Warriors
- The shirt you wear throughout is the shirt Forrest Gump makes when he's jogging and uses a shirt to wipe mud off his face
- Casey from TMNT

- I think the unfinished construction on the left side of your garage is a reference to something, not sure

On my first playthrough atm, definitely going to do a few runs of this game, loving the small references.
