Way of Turtle perks and skills appear to do nothing
So I've almost unlocked the whole Way of Turtle tree, and been trying all sorts of things in fights, choosing different perks and reloading to try fights again, and it just looks like none of the perks and skills work, or have such a small effect they are pointless

1. Energy - So when I get hit, my energy goes down as much as they used to throw the punch. My attacks cost more energy to use than all others, and I lose as much energy as they use to attack just for being hit (no dodge or block skill used) - feels broken. They do not lose the same amount of energy as I use to hit with.. seems only fair they should.

2. 'Skip opponent attack round' abilities - no apparent effect. Meat hook + Energizer + Backbreaker + Brawler (+ Long Timer). Got repeatedly pummelled by opponent, I attacked significantly less than them. Backbreaker hit them almost every round. I actually lost the fight even faster than when I just took all attack powers. Definitely broken, none of these skills give any indication how likely they are to happen. At the moment I feel all these abilities together should be in the 75% range to happen, it seems like they might be in the 5% range (completely pointless)

3. Pain Lover - no apparent effect. Energy chart at end of combat shows no difference in energy level with or without this ability (and this was vs a boxer - I was getting hit 4-6 times per enemy attack round). Seems broken. Tooltip should give specifics (eg you gain 5 more energy after each hit taken, etc)

4. Shining Knight - no noticable difference in damage taken when trying the same fight with and without it. Seems broken. Tooltip should display exactly what it does (you gain 0.5 armour for each stamina, etc)

Using the general skills dodge, block, low kick, high punch I can win every fight with no sweat just based on my stats (5/11/13). Trying to win using my Way of the Turtle skills, some of the fights are basically impossible, the ones I win are a close match.

Maybe the final skills Spear and Bear Strike are good, but so far the whole tree seems fairly pointless

Yeah I agree.. The punch damage reduction does nothing against Ivangief.. Can't beat the game cause of this useless glass.. I'm seriously only gaining 3 skill points every 3 days and stuck in this stupid loop trying out different skills and none of them work. Also if you equip different block types, only the first one will proc.

Devs help.. Fix turtle

Every round I've tried Energizer, I've attacked -significantly- less than the opponent.. seems to be skipping our attack phase isntead of theirs

12 stamina turtle stance can't even sustain a 4 cost kick, 3 cost dodge, 4 cost punch and a skip attacks action... Ivangief with 10 stam can sustain a 10, 8, 11 cost set
Seems turtle's regen is also not working

Heya. I'am using atm Turtle build. I'am at managing your carrer I beat Ivan first try.
I'am using hardblock, dodge, spear, and bear strike in first round, and then swap bear strike with bear hug. when I beat ivan I was 3/10/13.
Spear is insanely good, you almost never run out energy. I feel like game is really hard with turtle, and you have to grind more, but it's definitly doable. the harder fight are vs Full str opponent who hit like trucks. Agi ennemies are getting rekt first round because they burn their ernegy too fast. Also vs agi ennemies or ennemies that dodge swap spear with barrel strike. Barrel stike will deal gigantic amount of damage in combo. You might have to use skip turn instead of dodge aswell. But I agree game needs some tweaking

The ♥♥♥♥? I'm at 8/18/10 and he's absolutely destroying me over and over.
Not to mention it's nearly impossible to gain anything. I lose about 80 or more percentage of everything I train every day..

Numbers not everything, skills selection and quantity play a big part too.

I can tell you jsut because i unlock a skill doesnt mean i replace an older one, sometimes i have to unlock unwanted skills to upgrade punches/kicks etc.

Sounds like Agi is OP and Sta builds are UP.

Interesting topic, will be following this.

My 2 cents: I feel like there are simply some skills in the game right now that they didn't bother testing, causing them to malfunction in some way. Maybe a lot of those are in the Turtle tree.

I don't know what you are doing wrong, but the first character I made was a strength build and I was able to complete the game (world champion route). It was the only build where I was able to constantly beat guys on the first round. I would say 75% first round wins and 25% were 2nd round wins, mainly due to going up against agi-builds.

13/17/13, use the good skill for pumping energy to ennemy and bAAm! :)

If you want a general build run down (I think there is a post about this already):
- Skill priority order:
1) Way of the Bear -------- Don't forget to replace Balance Tactics with Slugger.
2) Powerful Uppercut ----- Main attack until Boxing Jab.
3) Counter-Cross ----------- Replace your defense skill with this skill.
4) Boxing Jab Series ----- Replace Powerful Uppercut
5) Focus Strength --------- Slot Powerful Uppercut until you get Beef Hammer.
6) Beef Hammer ----------- Third slot skill
7) Triple Punch ------------- Mainly to get Muscle Memory
8) Muscle Memory -------- Helps you focus on bringing up agility and stamina
9) Some Motivation II ---- Self explanatory
10) Boxer --------------------- For more accuracy with Boxing Jab and Cross-Counter.
11) Tormenter Strike ----- Swap out Beef Hammer depending on situation.
12) Exhauster --------------- Swap out Cross-Counter.
13) Active skill -------------- Put Cross-Counter back in.

Skills should consist, of
- Boxing Jab Series
- Exhauster
- Beef Hammer/Tormenter or both (if you have a fifth slot)
- Cross Counter

End-game is pretty much minor, just get the last skill slot, knee crush, long timer, Berserker, and maybe even Ruthless agression if you don't like cross-counter, also focus on getting agility up.

Way of the Turtle is definitely the worst of the three build trees by far. I had to start over because I wasn't having any fun with it (losing half my fights, struggling hugely against AGI/Tiger NPCs). I tore through the game with a Way of the Tiger character, almost never losing any fights ever (did not lose a single fight til the movie endurance matches) and rarely having to even change my skills around once I got not even halfway through the game. Am halfway done with a Way of the Bear guy now and I'm not having many problems besides the really high AGI Tiger characters. Meanwhile I go back to my Turtle guy who with way more skills unlocked, was worse than the Bear and Tiger characters when they had half the skill points earned.

Way of the Tiger/AGI build is definitely easy mode and almost totally brainless with what to do with it. Bear requires some forethought then works well. Turtle seems mediocre and worse than both matter what you do until apparently the very end of the skill t tree.. It's really terrible before you get to that point.

I'm still gonna try with it but it definitely feels like the worst path easily. Tiger is easily the best.
