Working for the Don (spoilers)

So it looks like the transition to Russia happens as soon as ou get your pro card and go to the Don, but I'm wondering what happens if I decide to work for him? Do I stop being a fighter?

Is it an alternate to going to Russia or do you end up missing out on content by not working for the Don?

I'm trying to see if I should replay and do it :)

I wouldn't if I could redo it. You lose the ability to do the ultimate fights if you work for the Don. I feel like I missed out on a part of the game. I would at least finish that storyline first before working with the Don.

This is two way. You can go to Russia and than be a star fighter. Or you can work for the Don, go to Prison and than be a gang leader.

Thats a shame, I wish this was a tiny bit more clear. I was probably only 1-2 boss fights away from maxing out the ultimate league when I got my pro-card. I didn't know it would just throw all that content out (to be fair it did make me a good deal of cash).
