Sporting goods store - How to unlock?

Does anyone know how to unlock the sporting goods store? I think I encountered a bug where the store remains locked forever.

Alright I found out what the bug is.

In my game, Frank got somehow bugged & stopped helping me out with phone calls.

This means Frank never left me the book "How to train properly" on the kitchen table.

Frank also never called to tell me about the sporting goods store. That means the location is forever locked to me.

I don't know what triggered the bug, but I'd be grateful if it could be fixed!

PS: But if you used a trainer, please DON'T send your save. That can be corrupted.

Ok I did further testing with a fresh game and I'm pretty sure I understand what causes the bug.

When the game tells you to visit Mick's office, don't go there right away. Instead, waste time doing jobs for cash. After about a week you'll see the two suitcase events, and after that (at day 9 for me) you'll receive a call from Frank telling you not to spray your efforts too thinly.

That message is actually the third one you are supposed to get, meaning phone call 1 and 2 are skipped. Hence you never see the training book, and you never are told about the sporting goods store.

EDIT: Not sure if this is exactly correct, but I did spend a lot of time before doing my first fight.

More details: I think if you get a glowing suitcase event on the same day you are supposed to receive a phone call, the phone call is skipped.

And nearly one year later...this is totally still a bug. Just wish i hadn't gotten 30+ days in before realizing it.

Same, but when I lost couple fights in a row, Silver said that I made little progress and unlocked the sporting goods store. Never got a phone call to unlock it

2022 still a glitch. day 50 and i had to google 'where do i buy gym equipment' and i cant ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ buy any ever now i just have to delete the save. so much time wasted. games getting a negative review

liers. you never investigated it. if you ignore going to franks gym and grind money in the first few days its makes it impossible to buy stuff for your garage. garbage bug.

I ignore if developers investigated or not, but I can understand why they haven't found it:

- The most optimal way to finish the game in the smallest number of days includes talking with gym guy the first day, and training soon (I should restart the game again to remember the exact moment). So I can understand that they didn't grind, so didn't find the problem.

- I've finished the game many times, and in my experience the only occasions where the sports goods store hasn't been unlocked were if I was advancing very fast. If you have a few loses (usually) then the store was unlocked to help you with the chance to buy the drug. The funny thing is that sometimes is better to advance only almost optimally, so in the end game you can be helped by buffs from the store. XD
