super stuck

I've gotten a good ways into the game but nowz my hint button is broken it keeps pointing to the stupid book but there is nothing in the book that can help me anywhere in the game ... I haven't managed to free the mine cart so I can't explore the mine and I don't knowz where to go to fix the sailors female doll that is to represent his wife ... I put the dolls back together it's just her heart that I'm missing and I'm out of clues as to where to find it and since my hint button is broken it's not like it can lead me to it please help me figure out the problem so that I can complete this game :(
