I beat challenge mode!
Honestly, I didn't think it was gonna be possible for me to complete it, since there were quite a few bosses that gave me trouble my first time around. I thought the fights against Black were going to end the run, but I'm wondering if the difficulty of some of the bosses was actually decreased, or if I was just doing a terrible job of fighting them. Black, at least, can't do her triple body slam, or summon minions.

Of course, I'm certain I couldn't have done it if it was a TRUE one hit death mode. Meaning, you couldn't use the tweaks that take hits for you. Having 3 extra chances to take damage every time you reach a save point kinda defeats the point, but I'm not complaining. I'm now one of the 1.5% to have the achievement. I'm just curious if it's lack of skill or lack of interest that has that number so low.

The end game still made me sad. Anyone who's beaten the game knows the two deaths that will rip your heart out.

She can't do that move in boss rush, either. I'm pretty sure it's intentional. The move would make boss rush unfairly difficult and challenge mode impossible (unless you have iron hearts and beat her before all your iron hearts break).

It's lack of interest for me. I got this game because I like the story and exploring, not the boss fights as much. I can definitely do it if I tried, but I'd rather spend time playing other games.

In non challenge mode she does that move twice,so even if you went in with 3 iron hearts it would be impossible to beat her if she could do it.

I found that the boss fights aren't that bad my second time around. I think Black beat me so badly because I wasn't being patient enough. Same with the other tricky bosses. The parts where you have to play as other characters kinda suck because they have no tweaks, so it really is 1 hit deaths, and Mina is so slow to attack and is stuck in place until after she reloads.

Except for Black's unavoidable attack, bosses behave the same in Harder and Challenge Mode. I think your experience made the difference: once you learn their patterns and how to exploit them, the fights get much easier.

If you want to level up the difficulty you can try Challenge Mode with no tweak (you won't be able to meet Fitzroy though) ;-) There is no achievement for that but you would get a special ending screen.

I guess I just wasn't very cautious the first time around. Every boss from Black onward felt tricky. I wasn't paying attention to patterns so much as just tanking hits and hoping to damage them faster than they damaged me.

Yeah... not all that interested in doing it again but even harder. .

What are the ways to get different ending screens? I've seen one with Robin, another with Mina and Samba, and another with Black.

Default ending screen features Robin. You have to complete 100% of the game to get Mina and Samba, and beat it under 3:30 to get Black. As far as I know, Challenge mode with no tweak gets you the last one ;-)

So there's only 4 different ones?

Also when I select "load save" in the title screen, some of my save files have a star next to the % of materials collected. What does the star mean?

Just beat Challenge Mode as well to get 100% achiev's. Fun game. A bit dialogue heavy for my taste of this type of game, but I loved everything else about it. My friend got it for me <3
