Super drowning skills

I'm playing on Harder and kinda can't reach Fitzroy's underwater cave even with 3 breathless perks. May be i'm doing it wrong? Right now i'm trying to reach the cave in one go from the surface - and i always drown two inches away from screen transition... Do i miss air pocket somewhere to refill Air meter midway?

Checked Youtube for pointers.... Apparently mashing jump button underwater to swim faster exhausts your air supply faster - around 2 times faster compared to just swimming on default speed.

While I do find it weird there is a bed down below I don't think it serves any purpose if the Mother statue above the water heals you and pretty much go to the depths with only 2 Breathless Tweaks and one Iron Heart on the Challenge mode. Simply put 2 hits is all you take then your dead. I suggest to memorize his pattern and try to keep a steady aim.
*would be nice to have a boss Restart option on Fitzroy to make it so that we don't have to swim there over and over again.*

It seems weird that the bed doesn't act as a checkpoint for a boss reset.

The bed is there because on non-challenge mode you can only just get there with 1 Breathless tweak (you'll loose almost all HP on the way)
