H2M mod need Variety Map Pack?

Hey all
Does anyone know if the new upcoming mod needs us to own the Variety Map Pack?

Its on sale now but stops before the mod is released, so would like to pick up beforehand if so.

No. It would only be required to play on servers that use those maps. Not having it installed would just boot you back to menu when the server switches maps.
