Where are the dedicated servers?
Hi,

The FAQ states that there will be dedicated servers (question 15 for the US FAQ).
However I am yet unable to find them. Can someone tell me where they are? I bought this game because it should have been a remaster of CoDMW1. However without own servers, and by it, no adjustable settings for the servers (and no mods, third party anti-cheat programs, and the console) it doesn't even come close to a remaster. Because that is what MW1 made so great.

Oh yea, are they planning on releasing the Variety Map Pack for the remaster? Because the maps Broadcast, Chinatown and Killhouse are insanely good :)

I dont think there are any which is a major bummer, match making sucks balz, ive only played a couple of games all of which were really laggy and half filled, majorly dissapointed. its such a shame, the rest of the game and all the new additions are great.

Beh that is indeed sad to hear. I thought I might just aswell ask the question via support (email) but I got this weird answer saying that dedicated servers are servers that are exclusively to MWR. Which is not the definition of dedicated servers.

It seems like only Indies (A, AA) titles only release dedicated servers these days.

Try asking about server browsers because thats what it looks like you're after.

The game seems to have dedicated servers but you want the ability to choose server rather than the matchmaking.

There are no dedicated servers. Dedicated servers are servers that can be hired and managed (according to wiki) with OS and internet in a datacentre. No such thing in the MWR. While the FAQ still states they should be in.

dedicated servers are exactly what the name says. its not peer to peer is it?
who owns them or rents them is irrelevant. Just because you cant create/rent or even browse them doesnt mean they arent dedicated servers.

that said your definition even still fits what Im saying. you have misunderstood what they are. Lots of people seem to not realise what they have been asking for.

You are hammering so much on the 'true' definition of dedicated servers that you have failed to see the point, or what is really in the game. The reason why a company like activision is switching to peer to peer is because to make the connection smoother. Because of the higher latency/ping for dedicated servers. Then why would they have their own dedicated servers, but do not allow third party dedicated servers. That doesnt make sense. And that is what really is in the game, peer to peer matchmaking. Not dedicated servers.

There are no dedicated servers on the PC version of MW:R. People have reported host migrations and you can even see in the lobby before a game starts that it's 'finding best host'. They even ommitted the ping bars to cover it up.

I can't see Activision funding thousands of servers when the population is so miniscule. P2P is the easiest and cheapest way for them. They may implement them when the game goes standalone though if a decent population is present.

We had all this BS with the likes of Advanced Warfare - they promised dedicated servers off the bat but then these became 'hybrid' servers and then those became 'hybrid dedis and a mix of P2P'. Christ; we don't even have an anti-cheat on the PC version so what hope have we got of dedi's anyway...

They will never bring back proper dedicated servers with a fully functional server browser...

Nothing angers Activision more than the fact that CoD4 is still populated.. They don't want ANYONE to be able to play CoD4 anymore, they want you to have to buy Infinite war to get their remaster... Yet thanks to dedicated servers, there's jack squat they can do about it..

Also consider how they intentionally sabotaged Black Ops servers to make people hate them by

1) Making "ranked" the ONLY way you could level up/unlock stuff.. Everyone plays CoD to level up/unlock stuff, so server owners were required to make their servers ranked

2) There was no way for admins to disable certain weapons/perks (like they could in CoD4) or even add mods (like they could in CoD4) - So the only way to enforce rules was to use kicking/banning..

3) Using kick/ban to enforce rules IS EXACTLY WHAT TREYARCH TOLD ADMINS TO DO!!!!!! It wasn't until right before Black Ops 2 release when Treyarch flipped their stance and stated that "they never wanted admins kicking to enforce rules" despite having told admins to do exactly that!

And ever since then any "dedicated servers" have been a joke.. Even Modern Warfare 3's "unranked community servers" were severely sabotaged by being off by default, having create a class be hidden deep in matchmaking sub menu's, breaking them with every update, not having server logs, and a host of other major problems...

They don't want loyal customers who will build strong communities and play the game for thousands of hours... They want impulse buyers who board the hype train and pre-order "because it's CoD" or "because the pre-order bonus looks cool" then quit after a couple hundred hours.. only to board the hype train again in 10 months and pre-order the next yearly CoD...

They want each CoD title to be effectively "dead" after it's 1 year is up and the "new" CoD is out...

I believe when CoD went over to console and the matchmaking system was implemented to MW2 it was more cost effective for Activision, I also remember reading that Activision bought the company that developed the Matchmaking+ system used by a lot of online console games (DemonWare) so in essence it was no longer necessary to create dedicated software for each title produced, basically the matchmaking sytem could be easily installed into the game like a module.

At roughly the same time as this was happening new netcode with so called intelligent matchmaking algorithms with on the fly lag comphensation was introduced by the time MW3 came along, obviously for us (PC Gamers) this was a downgrade , but for the companies involved in this new development it was far more cost effective and made commercial sense.

I will add in the real world this system in my own opinion is flawed , I play mostly at night and I'm matched with players who have far better latency than myself.. and the lag comphensation doesn't seem to work lol , the dedicated server is in fact only used in the context of matchmaking, once the host is picked it is then open to abuse , ie lag switching etc.

CoD changed it's DNA at that time and became a fully fledged console game. When you think back to the days when we could boot up the game and join our favourite servers and have a lag free experience, it does not take rocket science to see why so many old school gamers turned on CoD like a rabid dog, that is when and why the hate began... not because the game is not good but because Activision and CoD became superstars overnight on console and PC gamers felt neglected.

Activision should have listened to the cries from PC gamers @ that time and developed a seperate strategy to please everyone , If they had maintained full dedicated server support for PC gamers I honestly believe CoD would still be the most popular FPS on PC @ 2016.

I could go on and on but most of the PC community already know most of what I have written, I personally still like the game and enjoy playing against Bots , but it would really be nice to see CoD (Activision IW & Treyarch) make a meaningful gesture and provide us with a dedi package, I live in hope.

Looking forward to playing the New game though.. probably against bots lol :P
