FINAL FANTASY XI: Ultimate Collection - Abyssea Edition

Finally got in game, have questions.
Ok, I have a few questions so I'll just get right to them.

1-Where the hell are the menus in game? Do I seriously have to click to get to everything?
2-Can i really not adjust ANY settings once in game?
3-Can I reverse the camera controls?
4-Seriously this one makes me feel stupid, how the hell do i exit the game without alt+F4ing it?
5-Why can we not minimize the game without it crashing?
6-Are there ANY hotkeys for doing things in game? This goes back to my first question of not liking to click to do everything.

I really want to like this game, but so far I'm finding it inexcusable how much trouble it is to play the thing. It's like they went out of their way to overcomplicate EVERYTHING from account creation, to logging in to actually playing. I understand the game is 10 years old, but that's zero excuse. Everquest is 15 years old, and did all of this stuff easier, and better 5 years earlier. WoW is 8 years old, and blows it out of the water in these features. (I'm not saying it's a better game, read my words, and stay on topic).

Please someone help me out here, and tell me these things are able to be worked around and help me playing this game without getting infuriated every single time I try to start it.

the "-" key brings up the menu, and there is config and everything there, also you must change it to windowed mode for it to be able to minimize it for a second, hit the right arrow key in the menus to bring up the second menu ^.^ GL! add me if you would like to join my LS for newer players (:

FFXI is one of the few games I prefer to play with a gamepad and I recommend you try that out. With keyboard and mouse, the menu can be access by pressing the minus key on your NumPad. There are some settings you can adjust in-game including camera controls. Also, the option to log out exists in this menu. Please note that there are TWO lists of menu options, not just the one that pops up when you press '-'. Scroll to left or right in menu to access these other options.

I don't know about hotkeys but you can program Macros which will become crucial for your sanity. There are any number of great Macro guides out there with killer ideas.

Could you take a screenshot of your controlle rsetup and post it here? I have a wired 360 pad, but no clue how to set the keys up best for this game.

I just used the Default gamepad settings in the FFXI options program (not in-game, the one you run from Steam) and it works great on my Logitech gamepad. Takes me back ten years to the excitement of getting the HDD for PS2 just for this game hahaha.

lol I remember getting the PS2 hard drive for Socom and ended up hooked on FFXI for years. Controller is best for this game I think. Left the game for a few years and back again while waiting for FFXIV to return.

It took me about 10 minutes to install the game from steam. 6 hours later, I still have another 5 hours of patching left, let alone all the crap I had to deal with creating an account and adding characters. I've never been so frustrated trying to play a game in my life

ya, installing and dealing with playonline is a pain. You gotta expect tons of patches since it came out in 2002.
