Xbox 360 controller for PC
Is this possible? I've tried researching this but it brings me to places that wanted me to download all kinds of nasty programs.

Yes, 360 controllers work on the PC. Just plug it right in to your PC USB slot and it should light up green and work after a few seconds.
You cant if its the wireless one that requires and extra USB Transmitter, i have one ^^ the play and charge cable dosent send data only chages the controller.

Yeah you can use a wired or wireless 360 controller! You can even configure the controller by opening the FFXI configureation app:

"Start" + Programs [Folder>Play online [Folder> FFXI [App> Final Fantasy XI Config

Once that opens click the option that says "Gamepad Settings (s)"

I've mapped button 1 to the "Action" button (the Green "A" button) function is select/confirm in the config, in shooters its the X or [ ] button by defualt. Depends on your controller you like. Obviously it is the 360 one. Which I love.

If you have used emulators before you should be able to grab the concept of programming the controller here.

@^^4RainbowDash your "Transmitter" is officialy called:

"Microsoft Xbox 360™ Wireless Gaming Receiver for Windows®"

Now, try and say that five times as fast as you can. LoL! jus' kiddng!

I just call it the Windows Gaming Receiver which is WGR when abbreviated or "WGRFW" in an acronymed form.

@December Dragons:
If you want the wireless option, you gotta fork the dough for the WGR, but its worth every cent :]

I have a wireless controller, but I have a wire for it. Nothing happens.

I don't know much about the wireless because I only use wired controllers for gaming.
Hey im having the same problem...but i can map my controller for playonline...but when i pull up the config for FFXI itself. It doesnt pick up the controlller at all. I have no idea whats the problem. Im using the afterglow xbox 360 controller
I'll probably buy a controller specifically made for PCs.

The only way a wireless Xbox controller will work with PC is if you have the transmitter as well for the PC. Even if you try connecting using the play'n'charge (the USB connection for wireless) it will not work as the instructions aren't sent through the USB. It's only used for transmitting power.
I have a pc controller and im still having the same problem -___- any ideas anyone?
