lol 40!? I only know 3
Few notes, Cuz of the way the site works i hade to choose either partner or brother to make some of the other clan trees. So the Yoshioka are in no way related to the Yagyu, same for the Hozoin.
The other 10 swords of the Yoshioka are in the Bio for Seijuro.
Yagyu Retainers/Disciples are the tree on the far right starting with Muneshige Matsuda. The tree sprouting from him are NOT related family members (Though Tamiya Botaro and Ganpachiro are father and son to eachother) These are as I said, Practictioners of the Yagyu Shinkage Ryu, students, disciples, retainers, ect. The Senior Disciples of the Yagyu were supposed to be branched togehter but the program was wonky, these include Kizaemon Shoda, Magobei Idebuchi, Yozo Murata, and Sukekuro Kimura.
If you get lost in the tree just click back on Ietoshi to see all the trees again, if you cant see him click on the highest person you can see and navigate back.
Also note I am using some characters that are taken from line wolf and cub, Goseki and Kojima were extremely good historians and as such often and likely based their stories and actual characters, even if these were just mentioned somewhere as a student of Yagyu Shinkage, IE in the case of Kikuma Toyama, who may have studied Yagyu Shinkage Ryu, but was likely NOT an assassin. But since the game has lots of characters based on myth and legend (Koji Kashin) I am also including these for the clan. There are still some more members out there.
Heres the link, apologies for any typos here or in the geneology, this was meant more for my own personal game use. Also its still a work in progress so if anyone has any input or other Yagyu members/practitioners of the time please let me know.

Munenori's skill was said to rival that of Miyamaoto Musashi and while the whole country often speculated on who would in in a match, a recorded battle never occured.
Munenori's son however became even more famous then his father or grandfather. Yagyu Jubei Mitsuyoshi was said to have been blinded in one eye by his father Munenori during a training match. Jubei is classicly depicted as wearing a sword guard for an eye patch. He was squire to the Shogun Tokugawa Iemitsu. But one day when Iemitsu wanted to train, Jubei refused saying it was like fighting a child. Iemitsu attacked him with a real sword and Jubei using Muto Dori (sword capture technique) basicaly put the beat down on the most powerful man (boy) in Japan.
Jubei was banished from Edo and became a Ronin. Or so the story goes. Whats interesting to note here is that later Jubei was restored, right around the time the goverment stoped a plot to revolt against the Shogunate. Also the records of Jubeis activities during this time are practically non existent. Considering his fathers position and regular use of the Iga Ninja, it is a good guess that Jubei was acting as a Shinobi agent for the Shogun, and that his banishment was a staged occurence to establish him as a rouge with no connection to the Shogunate.
However many stories and legends have been passed down putting Jubei in the light as a Hero for the people, stopping brigands and corrupt officials.
Many current stories show Jubei turning against his father who has been corrupted by politics.
Whatever the case Jubei died young, official report states likely heart attack while hawking or fishing. But the most likely case was that the goverment had him posioned to keep their secrets, or becuase he had indeed turned against them.
Many other members of the Yagyu clan became exceptional sword masters and there are plenty of stories about them. Such as Araki Mataemon and the Revenge of Iga Ueno. Yagyu Retsudo who is made out to be the villain in the Lone Wolf and Cub manga/movies. Yagyu Hyogonosuke, Yagyu Renya, Yagyu Matajuro ect.
Also how small is the starting castle of a custom clan compare to a standard clan?
is a fort, the game has two types, castles and forts, castles are more resistant, give more resourses, have more soldiers, let you modify the castle much more, and the province is considered yours in the main map, forts are smaller, give less resourses and having only a fort and no castle make you a small clan (you can ask to be vassal of some mayor clan for protection).
If you ara a vassal and you conquer a castle automatically you become a medium clan and you are no longer a vassal of your master clan (in case you become a vassal for protection)
Depend on were you start the game can be easy or a real nigthmare, as I say before there are some places that are on constant battles and you can be on crossfire very easy, For example is not recomended to be in a place where is a very large clan, and much less a place where is a free for all like near the hojo clan.
Pro tip: ever, ever in your games have at least one big clan as a friend, this can save you in more than one ocasion, even better you don't need to worry about them as an inmediate enemy
The game has a quest system, they give you some quest that help you become a great clan, develop you fort and conquer a castle, i can't say much about them (my game is in japanese) but i can say that they are helpfull for a nice start
In conclusion you start from the dirt and you must overcome the odds to be someone in this game, use politics, war, make friends or even betrayal to win
