NOBUNAGA'S AMBITION: Sphere of Influence

Population growth
I'm trying to figure out how to actually grow my population in a city. I started as a small new clan with a single city and it had a population of like 13000 I think and I played for multiple years and it never seemed to increase. This prevented my labor pool from increasing which meant I could never build or upgrade my districts. Does anyone know what drives population growth?

Population grows faster if you improve the roads connected to your castle (up to level 3 and above). Also there are certain facilities and policies that raise the growth as well and according to the manual the growth is also affected by agriculture. Popularits might also have an effect on it, but I am not sure about that.
Also when you assimalate a tribe it gives the main castle in the province a big boost in population.

Does growth occur slowly over time like monthly or is it a once a year event like the food harvest?

How does population effect your labor pool? I know 5000 pop goves you another district, does that also give you more labor?

When you select a city while in Active Phase you see the population slowley rising. Its not much in smaller cities, like 100 or so a month.
And yes labor is tied to population. I think 1 labor for every 3000-4000 population.

There are also a couple castle additions that boost growth: residence, one of the gates, and an annex (I think).

Yeah, also developing crops and craft raises growth.

Just Auto Council. Delegated AI is op. Started in 1548 and by 1550 i had 30-40k soldier and huge economy only with auto council + right orders.

Auto Council is boring. I dont even install provinces and regents when i dont have to. I also forbid them to attack other clans. I want to be in control of everything. But i´m a player who loves micromanaging in games. :P

Not very advisable. Played over 35 ingame years(46 hours), and AI is notoriously bad as basebuilding. Tends to spam hunting camps, noh theaters(even with all districts unlocked) and studios/ricedealers.

And I'm having the same issue as Nekoko. I have a fortress with 13k pop, and rising. But I still can't add new districts despite the 5000 pop requirement.

Castles/Fortress get 1 district per 5k population that it has, BUT All Castles/Fortresses start off with 3 districts right out of the gate so therefore the first 15k population is already accounted for as far as districts go so only at 20k pop will u then be able to get an additional district, if the Castle/Fortress in question can have more then 3.

If a place allows the max of 10 districts, then it starts with 3 so wont get 4th till 20k, then u can get 5th at 25k, 6 at 30k, 7 at 35k, 8 at 40k, 9 at 45k and lastly the 10th at 50k pop

You can check the monthly population growth on the fortress tab.

First priority seems to improve all roads directly leading to it up to lv3, higher if you have spare cash.
If you can assimilate a tribe for a quick boost (unlikely to be possible as a lone castle as you need to be at 100% with them)
The annex in the castle provides a decent boost to pop growth (requires wall upgrade first)
Every district has a population boosting facility (noh theater, etc)

lastly, some policies can be enacted to boost pop growth.

If you want more labor, it's probably quicker to capture another fortress...
