Kessen IV
can be amazing a new Kessen based on Japan setting ( no Kessen II please ) , more historical than fantasy ( no special actions of officers ) , more manouvre than mindless rush :D a serious remake of Kessen 1 with graphic of SOI and Dynasty Warriors.

What about Kessen 3? That one was epic.

Kessen 3 is a bit too fantasy style, many action oriented and special magic actions XD off course it was very funny bit Kessen 1 is real Kessen.

I said something like this 9 years ago and still no Kessen 4.

I think that Bladestorm is pretty close to what an hypothetical Kessen 4 would turn out to be.
The series was getting more and more action-oriented with each new installment, a new Kessen 1-like game is very unlikely.

But... but... Kessen II was the best one... except for that Himiko woman, she was annoying. But the magic was amazing!

Kessen 1 is best kessen, advancing the story even with defeat is a great feature.

Just get bladestorm? That's essentially Kessen.

I still need to play Kessen III....

The only problem with a Kessen 4 is that the only time period they can explore without doing a retelling of 1-3 is Hideyoshi's unification of Japan following Nobunaga's death. Or they could do the Genpei or Boshin War...they haven't touched those at all outside of Warriors Orochi and the only game I know of that has explored them in any degree of seriousness is Shogun 2. I guess they could also do a more faithful retelling of the Three Kingdoms story, though they've done that many times across all their titles.

That said, I am all for a new Kessen. Or a new Tactics game.

Why not go outside of the box? The Imjin Account of the Japanese invasion of Korea and the Korean hero Admiral Yi? They could also go the route of the Unification and formation of the Han, which mirrors the Three Kingdoms Account quite a bit. (There was chaos, then there were heroes, etc etc.) They could finally, try out a Mongolian invasion of Japan, which Japan repelled by use of natural weather and ground forces.

Well, there are 2 periods I actually want them to explore back. KOEI did make the Unification of the Han called Rise of the Phoenix, it was a good game but they never make any new title. They also do 108 bandits of Liangshan mountain game. The one they didn't do was Spring and Autum periods or the one after the Jin dynasty called North-South states. Those have lots of story and characters/heroes to choose from .... I don't know why they only do RTK or Nobunaga only type.

maybe there are thousands of secret undeground tunnels that link castles :D the feudal version of underground IIWW tunnels of Tokyo XD

Personally I'd love to see them tackle the Fengshen Yanyi.

As for other periods for Kessen games, specifically, to tackles... there are plenty. And it's not like going back and tackling the same era from a different perspective can't be awesome. Imagine a Kessen game that takes inspiration from Yoshikawa's Taiko, or Musashi. Even the Edo Period has a lot of potential--particularly at the earlier and later ends, when it was so bloody.

Koei actually did Fengshen Yanyi, not in Kessen, but in a seperate RPG series, which had two entries (the first for PS1 and the second for PS2) and a musou-like spin-off called Mystic Heroes.
The first game was an SRPG and the second was more of an Action-RPG, but none of them were released outside of Japan. Though the spin-off Mystic heroes was released in europe (don't know if it was released in the us).

Anyway if Koei would ever do another Kessen game (though its doubful seeing how its been 11 years since the 3rd game came out), I think they should avoid making another entry based on one of the three unifiers. I think it would be much more interesting to do one about Mori Motonari, or to step outside of the Sengoku era and do one about the Gempei War (similar to Kessen 1; meaning the player would chose between playing as the Taira or as the Minamoto).
I would also be open for a game based on Liu Bang, or even on Qin Shi Huangdi.

Mystic Heroes was released in the US. PS2 and Gamecube IIRC.

I guess there are a lot of other areas to explore. A Gempei War done in Kessen 1's style would be appealing, though I would like if it kept some of the RPG style equipment or choices that 3 and 2 respectively had, though equipment in 3 was a pain to get...(seriously, I never got past Chapter 4, but to get S ranks on some of the missions while getting all the items already on the map is obnoxious at times...Okehazama anyone?).
