Can't continue Oda quests from 1542

While experimenting a little, I discovered that you can't actually progress the Oda's quests if you pick The Viper of Mino as a starting date. See, the problem is, you have to get the Saito clan's trust to 100. However, there's a time limit, and the first quest requires you to siege one of their castles, making them angry enough to not want to conduct diplomacy with you for a few months. Even if I send my best diplomat to them when they calm down, I fall short of the required trust by a few points, and fail the quests. Am I missing something, or is this an oversight?

if it makes ya feel better I never got the hang of doing quests in this game. I also want to make my own history. I did find a guide that explained the quests but there were a lot of things you could not do and it cramped my style...BUT GOOD LUCK

I did this quest playing as oda starting in this scenario. I can't remember how i did it tough, but yah, it's possible.

I can't remember that particular quest and too tired to go into the game to pull up that scenario at the moment. I think that's one where you need to time it so that you don't complete the previous quest until you've already got the Saito relations up.

There are multiple quests like that in SOI that are much tougher than the Oda one (like getting Hideyoshi to Osaka in less than 30 days after Mitsuhide's coup).

If you're going for achievements and don't want to replay things over and over, I'd look at one of the guides to see what steps need to be taken so you can plan for them. Oh, and save often...I've had too many little mistakes block me from a quest I've done 10 times because I forgot one little thing....argh

well playing the quests is just not fun and that is why I don't play them. Forty years ago I might have but the old reflex's and brain are a bit slow now at 80 I just want a game to be enjoyable and fun.

Yeah, its easier to download a save file with all the hidden characters unlocked, there's one linked by an old post on the steam forums here. Otherwise you really need to be an obsessive perfectionist (like me, sadly).

Thanks for the help! I finally got past it by delaying the construction of the castle until the Saito calmed down. I then started diplomacy with them while erecting the castle.

I'll definitely agree that the quest system of this game is incredibly flawed, the AI and the player can easily break them inadvertently and it often feels like you're forced to enact a rather rigid script to complete them. It's quite obvious that the quest system was not really the focus of development, rather the larger goal of making an open ended strategy game focusing on conquering Japan was.

the chances are I will have gone to the big war game in the sky by the time you reach my age and you styie of play may change but till then just keep slicing & dicing
