However you can just play and ignore the achievements, they don't do anything except unlock some bonus officers which are based on historical/mythological figures. The extra characters have infinite lifespan and are not involved in quests. You can set them to appear in any new game you start. I never used them.
Out of all the DLC, no.9 Shingen's Final Step is the most useless one, don't get it because: it is set as Fictional, meaning no quests or historical events. It's just a what-if scenario where Shingen doesn't die at that point historically.
The other DLC are all historical scenarios.
Depends on how much you are willing to spend? They should have released all the DLC in a discount pack, getting them all is expensive.
I will say that the base game already has a massive amount of potential gameplay.
So not absolutely necessary for enjoyment but worth the price.
Fateful Clash (1582) and Nagashino (1575) do add in new events and missions for the losers, along with difficult event battles.
Of the millions of games i have played of this, ive never gotten the battle of nagashino to trigger in any scenario but the actual Nagashino scenario since the 1,682,517(give or take a couple) conditions that need to be met for it are set right at the start.
I play with low AI aggressiveness and no battle deaths though. With other settings maybe it's much harder since the clans tend to expand a lot or key officers die.
The conditions are:
Anti-Nobunaga coalition quest completed
Takeda daimyo is Katsuyori
(Shingen gets event death after above quest even if lifespan is not near end or Longevity setting)
Takato belongs to Takeda
Okazaki belongs to Tokugawa (and Nagashino)
Oda and Tokugawa allied
Takeda already start with all the necessary officers. The two Sanada officers Masateru and Nobutsuna will appear in the battle if available to Takeda, but without them the event can still proceed and be completed. It depends if Takeda managed to recruit Yukitaka early and thus get his sons later.
I triggered it earlier than 1575, iirc around 1570.
To get the full quest reward (several traits for the Oda participants) the two Sanadas need to be there and all the Takeda cutscene deaths must occur, in addition to following Nobunaga's directives i.e. him not moving, no units retreat
