Leveling and skill points tip
For any who don't know, you can spend skill points in any skill class. Ie. A point gained from leveling in Nature Magic can be spent in Melee.

This makes it easy to get a few extra points for your main class by leveling 2 or 3 levels in the class you absolutely dont use, or even the 3 other classes! Then spending them on your main skills. Basically guarantees you can max out your class.

The game manual tells me when you are adventuring that for each kill the XP is divided "between each conscious charactor in the area". If I solo my main for some parts does that mean that during the the overall game they would get an overall higher level?

Its completely viable to go solo, I suspect the game tries to balance the world around your party, if you are doing poorly in fights, it'll give you weaker fights, if you are doing well, it'll give you harder ones.

Having mostly combat mages make the balancing hilarious, nearly every fight is a steamroll, either in mine or theirs. If you are doing well they have a tendency to spawn huge mobs... which Combat mages spec'ed in AOE wipe out as fast as a single dude... I end up outleveling because of the huge piles of mobs placed before me.

It is rare that you will ever manage to have your main character not be the highest leveled character.

I experiemented a bit. It seems there is some but not a lot of scaling; i.e. key quests / scenes will adjust "somewhat" to your level but replayable general maps you can farm again and again without them scaling to your main's level or party's level. I was wondering a bit about this as DS1 once a map is played it never regnerates and so you have little opportunity to farm XP. DS this is doable to for solo and party play so one can farm XP for their main to get them to key skill levels or generally level their party in their "off skills"; whuich is something I like to do. i.e. it's nice once your support archer has 40+ skill to level them as a healer for say 20 nature magic levels and they will only advance 1 or 2 character levels.
