Dungeon Siege 2
Other games like Dungeon Siege I and II
Hi All.. I'm looking for rpg games similar to dungeon siege I and II, where characters progress based on the weapons and actions they use so for example if you equip a character with a sword, their strength will increase as they use it likewise for magic etc.

To clarify a bit more, I dont want to have to micro manage every aspect of caracter development by manually assigning skill points or swapping between characters all the time because they dont retaliate when being attacked. I like to watch how the battle plays out and decide which character needs new kit or different spells/abilities.

Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

Oui, il y a Diablo 1, 2 et 3, Grim Dawn qui est nouveau comme le Titan Quest précédent, Silverfall, Sacred 1 et 2, pas le Sacred 3. (Sacred 3 is not H&S)
Diablo, Titan Quest, Grim Dawn, Silverfall, Path of Exile est/is gratuit/free, Créateur par des fans de Diablo. Il y a quand même une bonne liste.

None of the ones above are similar in the way you hope. They are arpgs but that is it. The sit back and relax vein sadly does not exist to the same degree of DS1/2. Space Siege is fairly close. Same dev just set in space but not a large group to control. 1 engineer and 1 robot. Gameplay can be geared towards a lazy style but requires maybe 6 hours of hands on first. There is also KYN that becomes DSlike after a few hours. Baldurs gate and Icewind dale series is doable but not recommended as a sit back style. Probably closest to DS however.

The dragon age series as well as pillars of eternity and the neverwinter nights series can also be tried as a laidback style but again not designed that way.Other than KYN and Space Siege the other games are more pause, decide, engage style of gameplay. That is all I can think of off the top of my head.

Sadly none of them live up to how awesome DS1/2 were in terms of battle ai and squad customization. Good luck.
If your looking for a laid back watch the battle unfold style of play, the only other RPG style game I can think of that has a char developement like DS 1/2 would be Spellforce 1/2 which also has the added eliements of an RTS in that in addition to your main you also develope other heros , towns , and armys that you will need through out the game. Spelllforce is an old John Woods game so it can be fairly buggy but if you save often its well worth the adventure . If you like classics like DS 1/2 it well worth getting. Its one of those games like DS that I play over and over. There is some micro-managing of points but you dont select a class when you start the game your char developes based on your style of play . The RTS aspect of the game plays out something like Age of Empires and may be faster paced than what your looking for but much of the game has sections that are exclusive to just your heros and your main.
Perhaps you might want to dig a bit in the tactical RPG genre. Granted they're usually turn based (which doesn't sound it would be a problem for you per se) they specialize in macro managing a large group of adventures / characters that DS1&2 have.
I personally love DS for this exact aspect and yet I don't enjoy TRPG a lot (mostly because they're turn based). That said there are a few highlights that I loved and played to death nevertheless. They're just that good!

Here are a few high lights

Modern Games:
XCOM: enemy within
Battle Brothers
(Dragon Age: Origins not a tactical RPG but the AI lets you automate most of the combat)

Open source:
Battle for Wesnoth

Older titles:
Genforge
Fire Emblem series

Perhaps you can find a substitute in one of these?

Thanks for the replies all, I've played DA to death and really enjoyed it .. I enjoyed magesty 1 and 2 as well, even though it was a little bit formulaic, I always loved checking on how my heroes were developing ..
Perhaps I'll have another look at the TRPG scene as suggested, the XCOM franchise looks good.
Sadly most RPG's that are hack and slashy, have you controll only one character which gets boring. When its point and click to move and attack, might as well have a party to controll.
Thx for all the replies guys. I recently picked up summoner here on Steam. The graphics are dated and the pace is slower than DS but if you can get past that, its a great little play.
The Elder Scroll Series has Skill Progress just like that, but these games are First Person RPGs, not Loot and Slash ones :E
They are third person to me aside from the small bits where first person must be used. Their focus on first person is what always kept the melee combat back sadly enough.
progress quest, if its still available. it used to be you would just run it and your battle finch or kung fu barding toad or what have you would do all the work for you. the people in the leaderboards had the best computers to automatically progress the fastest with the most uptime running.
Heh ..I "played" progress quest .. battle mechanics were too complicated .. :P
Divine Divinity is probably one which comes close to Dungeon Siege or Divinity II. In both divinity games you can create a char as you wish. However, you do have to spend points in levelling stats and new skills. Though that happens also in Dungeon Siege II. And in the mentioned divinity games you don't have a party. Larian changed that with Divinity: Original Sin.

Third person you mean, with an option to switch to first person. At least that is the case with Morrowind, Oblivion and Skyrim, all third person view with an option to switch to first person. Maybe that Arena, the first game, is first person only, as it is a dungeon crawler. Haven't tried that one yet.

You can perfectly fight in third person stance in the TES games. I still play Morrowind myself, the third elder scrolls title, and i always fight in third person. I play with an altmer mage, custom made. In Oblivion i switched sometimes to first person, especially with bows.
silverfall..party based hnsrpg.
Silverfall was great. I did enjoy it way back when, but I cant get it to run on Win10 ..
Maybe I'll re-visit it. Thanks for reminding me ..
I know it's been years since this thread was active, but I noticed nobody suggest Jade Empire.

Oldie but goodie, imo. Also from Bioware, so you know it's solid. I played the heck out of it when I owned the original Xbox and I remember it was great when it was released on Steam. Rich storytelling, fun combat, different style of world to discover. Definitely a personal genre favorite.
