Did you start it as an administrator? Do you have mods?
Do you see your characters name? Have you tried in the shorcut to run on compability?
Some people say it, because they installed it to another disc and it just doesn't work. (for me, it's on a different disc and works)
As soon as I remove one of my mods the game can't find my savegame file anymore, even though it's still in the savegame directory.
There is "c://documents/blablabla" and behind that you write width=1440
So: "c://documents/blablabla" width=1440 height=900 fullscreen=false
Or you can go to steam library, right click game, property, and in the General tab (first tab), there is a line "set launch options" at the middle. You clicky that copy this:
width=1440 height=900 fullscreen=false
Press okay, and probably done.
Look for your savegame in this directory:
[documents/My Games/Dungeon Siege 2 (Broken World)/Singleplayer/...]
If your savegame is there, but the game can't find it when started, try this starter tool:
https://www.siegetheday.org/?q=node/2687
It has been created for the sole purpose of loading savegames the game otherwise wouldn't recognize.
I had the same issue.
I am running the game with only that option, fullscreen, on 1080p and with the changes described in the following link:
