Controls? Num Pad not working

I bought this today, how do I control ship, fencing etc? Numpad doesn't work for me, whenever I try to enable NumLock the game immediately switches it off again. I tried arrowkeys which works but then I am missing buttons for shooting, and obviously the diagonal actions (7,9,1,3).

Any ideas?

hmm did you try and enable NumLock before starting the game?

Alternatively you can use free little programs like XPadder to remap your controls; I remapped it to a gamepad but you can also remap the numpad to other sections of your keyboard.

I always have Numlock enabled. It gets disabled the second I get into the game. I can even tab between windows and game and it will be on outside of the game and instantly off in game. So far I play with arrowkeys and mouse, clicking the buttons manually with the mouse. Not ideal but it works somewhat. Still looking for a solution though.

You can click the on-screen buttons. That's how I play with a keyboard that has no numpad.

This is what I do too. It also makes the dancing a lot easier.

yes. there is a file KeyMap.ini located both in your game directory and in Documents/My Games/Sid Meier's Pirates!

you can edit many shortcuts there.

For me I had to disable Num Lock before the keypad would work.

I have a HP Pavilion 6 running win 7. I have the Num Pad but initially the num lock automatically turned off, too.

My solution is to change the windows registry like here. Set InitialKeyboardIndicators = 2 rather than the initial 0. It worked for me.

I bought a new keyboard just to play this game. Worth it!

This issue is driving me nuts... I don't want to edit the registry every time I want to play, and the keyboard doesn't even have a NUM LOCK key (Dell POS keyboard). I can't find anything to help fix this...

Oh, and keymap.ini file isn't the solution either.

The problem is the cheap ass Dell keyboard. Grabbed a USB keypad that work was throwing out and I'm in business.
