Err looks like Ewok beat me to it.
As i stated the Transparent map was a compromise because the camera on Xbox could not zoom out as far. However i found a site which does have mods for pirates games altho a quick look i couldnt find any map mods. http://www.hookedonpirates.com/
No, the one on steam is a remake of the original.
This is.

It was added to Steam way later than this was.

Good to know, cheers.
Some notes on the PC version...
- There are many olds school pirates gamers that still play this that have alot to add to the overall scheme of how newschool players relate to updated material
-Sneaking is a pain and stupid no matter how you look at it and is only necessary in certain situations
-Pc has mods..
-and Im really totally addicted to the number pad style of play, scrw the mouse...I use it in town to speed up scrolling, but num pad is far more supperior to x-box in my opinon at this current point.
Now am I am fully capable of getting the newer pirates for x-box and smashing that, but the sheer edirability of a pc game far out weighs the fun of a console. If you know the right things to do to a game file it can change the whole world hat you play in. That, is just simply something you cant find on console, and seeing peoples mods and tweaks is so fun for me on a game that I've played, then done again and again, and am growing bored with, but still enjoy entirely the framework and parameters of....BLEGH
Transparent map was kind of cool on the console version but its not really needed and probably more useful on console since it would be a hassle to navigate between the complete menu map all the time where as on PC you just click twice and boom your there, then esc to back out.
I agree though, the sea shanties after battles was a nice touch.
