Problem - 'Failed to find steam'
Hi! I recently bought Sid Meier's Pirates! and whenever I start it up it says,"Problem starting up steam" or 'Failed to find steam'. I have pasted the Steam.dll into the sid meier's pirates folder like it says online, but it still doesn't work. Can someone please help?

I did end up finding a soluion. After a clean install of Steam(for unrelated reasons) I again tried the trick to copy the steam.dll file (c:\steam) to the pirates! directory (c:\steam\steamapps\common\pirates!) and it works now.

No idea what was different about this dll, but it was about half the size as the one I copied last time (it was still in the folder I copied from my backups after the format).

So.. yeah. Anyone with this issue, try copying the dll, and if that doesnt work, just re-install steam! Quality job, Sid.

Right-click game in library, select Properties, Local Files tab, Browse Local Files. That gets you to the directory where Pirates! lives. Copy "steam.dll" from three levels up into here. Seems to fix the problem.

Verified. Copying the steam.dll into that directory fixed the problem. Thanks!

My first problem was "Failure to initialize DirectX". I was told to got to the .exe properties and change a few things. After I did that, I had the "steam not found" problem.

When I add the .dll, does it matter where I put it within the folder? Or can I drop it anywhere?

Thank you. Copying the dll worked even without a fresh installation of steam.
