Activating it on steam
Have any of you tried to activate a physical copy of the game and was unable to? I can play this game fine on Win 8 64 but for some reason I cant activate it on Steam. Sent them a request but was wondering if anyone else was having this issue?

Yes, I did as well. That's what really bother's me about steam. You can own the game. And even though they can sell the game, they don't have to honor your CDKEY. They have a list of what games they support for your CDKEY. Yet, there able to sell them old games.

At some point, I think they even told me because it's how the protection is different. That with there version, I didn't have to have a disc. They were was basicly telling me that my game was different from the store boughten versson because the achivemtns and crap, which I find utterly rude . They are trying to claim they made the game better.

Iv'e never got it to work on steam for me. The 11 mins ya see is how long it took me to load it and watch it crash on steam's version. However I think they have extened how long you can want your money back. Only a day after I bought it XD. 78 hours is it now?

Try to keep in mind, the Physical copy was out before it was ever added to Steam.
This isnt the only game that doesnt accept Physical copy keys.

I read today that the reason is because while some companies are for releasing original licenses regarding CDs, others are not so willing, hoping that you wil re-buy the game in this new format. Its not Steams fault in this case; that would be totally in the fault of the owning companies rights.

Its technically a slimy move on their part, but well within their rights. :(

This shouldn't matter, the files are the same. Maybe if they tried to support actual problems with the game. The fact is they should support physical copies if there not going to help the game run any better. And to ignore the complaints, and say it completley compadable with 8.1.

Just because ya can, don't mean you should.

Again, Most companies dont make it possible to use physical keys on Steam, Pirates is not the first game to not allow it.

Its just how things are and how most businesses work. Theres really nothing all that surprising about it.

Plus, not all Keys are the same format that Steam uses, so theres that to consider as well.

Like I said , its only steam that suffers when I relize they have lied to me about the combatiblity for a gamer. See you think it's just the keys. I'ts not that. They have featured this game twice. And not only do they not support the CDKeys, they don't really support the game. Look at the times they'll sold this game. And It's not the first time they've screwed people on the sile. CHeck this forum for real.

What I'm taking from you is that is not Steam's fault for saying a game works when it clrealy doesn't. That it's our loss because they bought the rights (wich assumes responiblity). It's no skin off my nose your right. But I can clearly see how Steam treats there customers.

"Oh, bought it twice? Oh we won't honor that. Tried to get it to run for 23 hours from the one we sold ya huh and now want your money back? Well, we dont honor that"

., Most Steamers come on here because we love the games we do.

And ya sitting here telling us, it's not there fault

Your really trying to tell me if there not true keys, and that couldnt be vefiied somehow......cmon man....say that about all games then. "not all keys huh? same with orgin , same with gog, and others that are coming out?

whatever dude, now ya just sound like someone vested in it.

I dont know about keys not being compatible, I myself havn't seen that side of the fence, but I do understand that developers sell their rights to Steam on various levels...and if they decide they will not sell the CD key rights at all to Steam to support physical copies, that really lies on the producer, not Steam because they just dont have access to that side of the product.

I hope, Whodat1972, you arent assuming that Steam is responsible when they arent given access to the keys at all, right?

What im saying is, every company uses a different kind of Key format, Steam uses a specific type. They also use a different amount of characters whereas Steam uses an exact amount.

Maybe im wrong, who knows..

But the point is, game companies are not honor bound to include Physical keys in Steam activation. Especially if said games had Physical copies that required keys before the game was ever brought to Steam.

If this is too hard for you to understand, than i dont know what to tell you. I'm thinking outside of the box whereas you're inside the box trying to tear it up.

Goto the Steam Activation screen, look at the Key example. Now you try to tell me that the Pirates key looks like that, and ill shut up and keep my comments to myself.

I'm just wondering why you bought a second copy if you already had the first. My steam game works find so it might be something to do with you.

If you mean me, no I haven't. I tried to activate the CD key from my physical copy, specifically so my son will have the opportunity to play it on his computer since we have the family sharing option. Im in California and he lives in Florida.
