Game simply sucks balls
How can you praise a game (overwhelmingly positive) that makes you to do the same thing every 2 minutes?

Its a nostalgic thing.
Games have moved on alot, thank god.

Several reasons,
A. Most of us have played this since our childhood (I've had this CD since I was 8)
B. There is actually alot to do! (Raiding ships, Pillaging towns, Courting lasses, finding treasure, the main quest)
C. While this game isn't as feature rich as many modern games the features are pretty fun, even in repitition!

This solves all issues w OP..

To Dev:
Not all good games need to be flashy, a true gamer and let alone a person who appreciates something thats actually good after all these years, I say this to you, if it wasnt for this game, the genre of pirate themed games wouldnt have rose to such heights to attempt to match and emulate this game. So many developers have tried n failed. Troll elsewhere..

Just leave this game alone. It is too good for a person like yourself. If you think this game is bad. Lmao you have no taste. I still play video games from 1997 and beyond.

i just got the game. only thing bugging me is the dancing, morale system, and only 1 on 1 ship battles.

so far the best pirate game i've never played was that disney pirate of the caribbean online game.

have your own ship. sail alone or with a human crew from 1 or too dam many. you have your own side guns they have their deck cannons. not all but some ships you and your crew could board the enemy in warcraft style melee or voodoo combat. was awesome til you get to the part of the story you had to pay them to continue it. =(

Does anyone remember a shark that would eat some of the known pirates? i kid ya not I've bought this game like 3 or 4 times, and it one version, ya know , ending of beating a known pirate, the big box would either sling down knock him in the head...swing twice , (beacuse he ducks the first time) and then the one one where he would duck like 2 times , the box would hit him, and a shark would jump up and eat him as he fell in? Tell me I'm not crazy.

I don't understand you. This game is really good, and you can do more things than just sailing. I know thats the main thing you do, but it's the point of the game.

What, you never picked a fight with an escorted treasure ship? Even better, a treasure ship escorting another treasure ship? Those guys wrecked me like Lord Beckett one time. It was great.
Why is the feedback for Sid Meier's Pirates overwhelmingly positive ? Because of the gameplay, along with other aspects.

But Wait! The gameplay is repetitive! How can I back up a game where we can experience pretty much everything in the first few hours? Why, that's simple...I've been setting objectives for myself for every playthrough since the second one:

Second Playthrough objectives:
  1. Understand landbattles. Find a foolproof way to win against a city garrison that outnumbers my crew 2 to 1(on Swashbuckler). Achieved
  2. Finish game on Swashbuckler difficulty. Achieved
  3. Try to dance. Failed

Third Playthrough ojectives:
  1. Play game from start to finish on Swashbuckler. Achieved
  2. Find a way sail continuously without having to divide the plunder. Achieved
  3. Leave two Spanish ports and capture every Spanish city for the other powers, so I don't have to waste time chasing Raymundo or Montalbaln. Achieved
  4. Try to dance. Failed

Fourth Playthrough objectives:
  1. Play game from start to finish on Swashbuckler. Achieved
  2. Leave the Spanish cities on the South American Coast, capture others for the other powers. So that you can end the main story quicker. Achieved
  3. Understand naval combat AI. Achieved
  4. Try to dance. ACHIEVED

Next Playthough objectives:
Play game from start to finish on Swashbuckler, retire with a million gold coins i.e; raise 2 million in booty before the game forcibly retires me.

Sid Meier's Pirates was my first open world game. Every playthrough I figure out better ways to play and improve my subsequent playthroughs

I'd recommend getting the game and giving another shot at being a Swashbuckling Buccaneer.

So true great game, very disapointing paywall. They really shouldn't have tricked you into thinking it was free. If they put more into the game and made it a legit mmo with a sub it would have been perfect.

You must not play very many videogames ;)
