Sorry to hear that.... I suggest you try Steam Support (click "Help" in the top lefthand area of this Steam page, and then when the menu opens, click on "Steam Support").
Thanks I actually figured it out I just needed to remove the GameOverlayRenderer in the steam files, It works perfect now.

Could you explain how you fixed it?
1. right click on the game
2. go to properties
3. browse local files
4. go to the steam folder
5. find the file labeled GameOverlayRenderer.dll and delete it

All that file does is put the steam stuff on the game, deleting just that file won't harm the game.
Also whenever you reload steam it reinstalls that file so if you want to play more pirates either disconnect your steam account from the internet or just keep going back and deleting it whenever you play.

If you have anymore trouble I can give you more in depth steps

How? Where did you get that exactly? I tried to do that, but it didn't work. It said that I had a problem with the DirectX thing. I am on Windows 10 64 bit. Please help.

That'll never work...

I would recommend disabling steam overlay which is what that file allows, it is the exact same thing except you don't have to keep deleting the file each time. Should work just the same and would be strange if it doesn't. Just go into the game properties and toggle it for that game, you don't need to disable it for all steam games.

I am aware this is an old post, just wanted to give people finding this recently a more convenient fix :)

Game works fine for me.
You can either run it in compatibility mode, run the game in a virtual machine, dual boot and put a compatible OS in. The easiest thing to do is compatibility mode followed by VM emulation.
I clicked the box that disables steam overlay for the game but it still says Unable to Initialize Direst X and then i go into the local game files there is no Steamfolder to find GameOverlayReminder. Im very confused, i have played this game on my steam account before but it was on a windows 7 pc not this one.
Just bought the game and I'm getting insane amounts of screen flicker and tears. Any help for that?
