Controller support? Deck support?

I know it says "unsupported" but figured I'd ask regarding the Steam Deck. Can I use a controller for this game?

i Had Pirates Gold on Genisis so i was very surprised its not available

I play this on my steam deck. No special hoops to jump through or anything. I just installed, launched, and played. The default controller setup even worked without having to tweak. All in game controls were already mapped. Some of the controls were not mapped to my preference, but game was fully playable for me with no issues except having to use steam+X to open the software keyboard to enter my name or name a save file.
