Sid Meier's Pirates!

Sid Meier's Pirates!

This game needs a remake
This is without a doubt the best pirate game to have been made, with AC:BF coming a close second. The pirate genre is so lacking in the gaming industry that a remake of this game, with perhaps a new twist, could really hit it out of the ballpark with popularity and freshness.

My question is why gaming developers arent tapping into the pirate genre?

I've been watching Black Sails - such a good show - taps into the Pirate mythos and that sense of swashbuckling adventure just like Sid Meier's Pirates! did.

It's a yawning gap in the gaming scene. There isn't anything remotely decent on the Pirate front currently available.

The next instalment of Sid Meier's Pirates is long overdue - and it presents a unique opportunity to really deliver a fantastic experience with refined systems and that sense of freedom to go forth and adventure on the Spanish Main.

Surely Firaxis are working on this - another iteration of Civilisation isn't what we need right now... we need Pirates for the next gen!

I'd suggest not just a remake but the next leap forward!

I completely agree with everything you said. I still play Civ V, and don't feel like it needs a sequel yet (the replayability with mods is insane. 400 hours and I haven't even touched multiplayer yet). I think Firaxis could really hit it out of the ball park with the next installment of Pirates! Lets just hope they have already realized this.

What's AC:BF? I've been davey-jonesing for more pirate action with season 3 of Black Sails coming to an end. Port Royale, Risen, East India Company, Sea Dogs. They all come up short of this one for my pirate fix. I even play Civ V as the English with lots of islands to have ships of the line and privateers. Always looking to add more pirate games to the collection!

Assassin's Creed: Black Flag. It's Pirate focus is actually really good. Closest I've come to reliving the glory that was Sid Meier's Pirates! The actual assassins creed story sucks imho - gets in the way of the pirate action but in the main it's a great pirate fix.

Yes, this game deserves a remake...I just pray its free of all the crap new games have. I hope its as open and non-hand holding that you see in new games.

Had SM Pirates been made by ubisoft or EA, there would have been a 20 minute tutorial, followed by safe gameplay.

If I was rich, I would buy the IP and make a game thats just like this game only with better graphics and more dialogue etc in ports.

Either a remake, or an HD widescreen reissue since this game is still pretty great. It just needs a little love to bring it up to modern standards... and a Linux port would not be unwelcome.

Obviously. It needs another remake to be reintroduced to a new generation of gamers. The only people buying or playing this game are the ones that played it when it first game out. The pirate genre is starving, and this game has the perfect foundation and concepts for the perfect pirate game.

Mod support would be cool too.

Try Age of Pirates COAS or Naval Action.

Yes, I'd pay good money, like up to $75 for an HD Widescreen remake with less or no dancing, better dancing if it's still there (I'd prefer a Sims 3 style game play as a way to get on the ladies good graces ie push, but not too hard/fast, and some more options and corrections to a few things like losing all but one ship and fencing is glitchy at times, for me anyway.
With all Anita Scamkeesian & Co.'s BS they'd probably remove the big chested ladies with nice cleavage because some flat chunky chicks who'll never play it anyway will get their panties in a bunch and go on a Twatter, I mean Twitter, crusade to complain and developers aren't always cool af like Rockstar. Haven't played this in many years and it was not via steam back then. Now I just racked up 29 hours in less than 2 weeks. Still an awesome game but sailing eastward on a frigate takes forever, sigh. It's a harmful game when it keeps me hooked and up gaming til 2am on a weekday sometimes ;-P
