Sid Meier's Pirates!

How am I suppose to find this lost city?
After finding two lost cities, I got the map for the third. But the only clue on landing point is "north of vera cruz". You know, north of Vera Cruz is basically one third of the map, all the way up to Florida. How can I find this city? I've tried some random points but wasn't able to find it.

That's why it's lost ...

sorry, couldn't help it.

Anyhow, all you can do is start just a little bit north of the city, and look for those landmarks. And then, look a little further north and try again. Rinse and repeat. If you can't find it after a while, you may just have to give up and finish that particular game without that specific mission completed.

The game isn't perfect, that's for sure. I've had occasion to go ashore, only to find myself and my crew walking on the ocean. And they said only Jesus could do that!

That's what I'm doing now, but without some coastline visible on the map, it's almost impossible. Thanks for your help.

Um, land next the city then head northwest and then hope.

I'm not sure if that works. You kind of need to land near where you're supposed to.

I mean, theoretically, you could walk the entire Spanish Main from one city to the next. In actual practice I don't think you can. Not that I've ever tried it.

But it's like, you land where you think you should, and there are absolutely no landmarks. OK, that's your first signal. So, sail away, go just a little bit over, land, and now you see landmarks. Even landmarks that should have been visible from the previous landing site, but somehow they weren't.

I can't swear to it, but I think the game generates the landmarks on the fly based on what, if anything, you're supposed to see based on whatever treasure map you happen to have, and how close to the place you should land that you actually landed.

That's why, for the OP, I suggested landing, look around for a bit, then sail off a little bit, land again, look around some more, etc. The hard part is knowing whether or not you happen to look around enough at any particular site. It's like, "oooh, maybe if we walk in this direction for another 3 minutes?"

Very frustrating.

Yes, you can do that, because I've done it before, but it does take a while, but if memory serves I only done when I didn't have a full map, which meant I didn't see the landing rock on it, and I just wander around an island or near Panama which does somewhat limit the scope.

Hope this response isn't too late, or if it is, that it'll help someone down the road.

There's a great resource on Hooked on Pirates, I'll post the link here.

tl;dr; Every map in-game has a set coastal landmark as a starting point, even if you can't see it on the map.

My best strategy for dealing with these is to save scum a bit, save and then start sailing in the general correct direction, and stop at every coastal landmark (towns and villages included, though I'm not sure if they count), find the nearest landmark you might see on the map (totem pole, deserted cabin, etc.), and try to walk through it. If you can walk through the landmark, you're in the wrong area. Repeat until you either run out of food and reload save, or find the treasure. I know some may think the save scumming is a little underhanded, but I think it's justified here because this is kinda unbalanced and way too vague.

Best.

I think the towns and villages and monasteries and Indian villages DO count. I remember recently having trouble finding landmarks on the map, until I noticed the map had "Santo Something" on it up in the corner. (don't remember who "Something" was, probably some saint) So I set ground right next to the Santo Something Monastery, and sure enough, I was able to trace the other landmarks to the Treasure!

I didn't know about that "walking through the landmark" trick. I'll definitely try it next time.

Hey, if you're still trying to find it, I just try to find places where the landmark rocks are (I.E. Blood shallows). Also, what difficulty are you on, and what level spyglass do you have? And, if you happen to see a landmark (I.E. a Dead Tree), try walking into it. Sometimes the game likes to randomly generate Landmarks that aren't on the map. The landmarks that are on the map you collide into, and can't walk through. The randomely generated ones you can walk right through no problem.

I am not sure if this has been said but go to Vera Cruz then save. Then keep searching inch by inch. Once you find the city reload and go to that point and find the city straight away as far as the game is concerned but it might have taken you ages.

So I had a similar problem. Find the nearest coastal rocks of the city you're supposed to be going to (+ any direction from the treasure map) and anchor there and try to find any objects. Once you find a few of the objects, you should be able to find the city. See example for Vera Cruz: https://imgur.com/a/0fhPVKQ
