Sid Meier's Pirates!

Sid Meier's Pirates!

Shrunken head and indian staff, useless?
Are they completely useless? I think that indian chiefs offer you the opportunity to send their canoes to nearby ports regardless of if you have those items (only time they don't is when the canoes aren't home). As this is literally the only thing you can do at indian villages aside from maybe buying a few bits of food I don't see how impressing the chief will make any difference.

Even the pirate-o-pedia makes no claim that they help, it just says they look cool.

Do they maybe make the chiefs send stronger canoes or something?

They look cool
Apparently, there were plans to include reputations with the Natives and the Jesuits, but those got scrapped. They left in the objects that are supposed to impress them, but they don't do anything unless you're including "Get Every Special Object" in your playthrough.

That's pretty funny, cost me a lot of money though. Where did you find that out?

There used to be a forum, Hookedonpirates, which became inactive in Jan. this year, which had tons of info including this one. There are also canooneers to use in landbattles which never got introduced but the files still exist in Assets, along with a long coat for your pirate.

Yes the two Indian Items I never get -- the signalling mirror or Lockpicks either (I just reload If I Lose my fully decked out Ship-- technically "cheating" but it's a casual, 1 player game)

I guess I never understood the signaling mirror, it's for after you wash up on an island and need a new ship?

I always thought that it was used for when ships pass your fleet on the ocean, you won't get a pop-up.

The signalling mirror gets you rescued faster if your crew mutinys and leaves you stranded on an island.
