Too Damned Slow
Isn't it frustrating how SLOW this game can go at times? I'm sailing along making decent progress (10 to 15 kts.) and all of the sudden BAM! I SLOW DOWN TO LIKE 5 KTS.! Gotta fix this Sid! Not very enjoyable when that happens.

It is not broken, it is weather. You have sailing vessels, not motorized ones.

This is true but it often seems like I'm going NOWHERE. Kinda frustrating, that's all.

The best way to travel fast is to use the weather to your advantage. Follow and cicle around storms, and of course, tacking into the wind.

Well that's just hard to do when I have several objectives to the east but the winds are blowing due west.

Sell off dead weight as soon as possible, use smaller ships to sail east when the need arises.

Awesome! Never considered that. So can I just port my main ship and sail off in a skiff by itself? If so, where and how to I store my main sail ship?

Unfortunately, you can't dock your flagship at a port and do your sailing in a smaller one. Basically, the wind is always blowing west on the easiest difficulty, but it changes direction more often on the harder ones.
Also, the sorts of ships in your fleet affect speed. Smaller ones can do better heading against the wind, but bigger ones need to be sailing before the wind to get up to speed. Also, Spanish galleons are supposed to be big and tough, not quick. If you want to get places in a big ship, look for a frigate-class ship instead.

AWESOME! Thank you for taking the time to explain this to me! You seem to be very patient and non-condescending. Once again, thank you. Peace!

Gotta Learn to Tack against that Wind !! -- even tho It can be frustrating, Learn to do it right and you can outmanoever your victims -- My Fleet Loadout also usually Is this -- Frigate (then Large Frigate) -- 2 good Cargo Ships (Large Merchantmen, or Reg Spanish Trade Ships) and a Brig or Brig of War, either 1/2 or fully decked out, you choose that smaller, quicker ship to chase Pinnaces and such (or to save wear-and-tear on your sails If Its say a weak Lone Large Fluyt) -- any other ships are- Sell the Cargo- Sell the Ship
