Since they disabled any network capabilities we will have to use LAN.

I always use Hamachi if I want to create a virtual LAN network.

You can find LogMeIn Hamachi here:

Download the unmanaged version. Install Hamachi and start it.
Click Network > Join existing network and enter with the following details:

Network name: dungeonsiegesteamgroup
Password: steam

Go to your steam game library and right click on dungeon siege.
Click settings and then in the menu that pops up click start up settings.
Add this line: Zonematch=true and click OK and exit the window.

This will ensure that Dungeon Siege starts up in the network menu which is disabled by default.

If you have Hamachi running, start Dungeon Siege and go to Network.
The server should be the only one in the list.

Easiest way to play DS and DS2 online is "Gameranger". You can just open Rooms for other people or friendsonly. There are also some DS Players.

I would love to play some multiplayer! Add me on Steam then we can see how we get it runnig - I allready played over Hamachi and it worked fine but it seems all the Networks here are full or offline? :/

Should be no problem if you install just DS1
