You have to go to Turns Windows features no or off and find legacy component and turn on directplay. this solve the directplay problem for me
I actually made a luncher for the game, to help with users who don't deal well with the command lines very well, or just want to be lazy like me.
If you want to try multiplayer with the steam version you can go to the second tab and check Zone Match, you can back out of that and you'll be at the multiplayer menu.
The argument is zonematch=true if you prefer to deal with the command line.

It actually needs to be placed in the same folder as the "DSLOA.exe" and/or "dungeonsiege.exe".
Assuming you are sitting behind a nat you may find youself having to do one of the following to actually do any multiplayer.
For multiplayer through the internet option the host will need to allow and/or forward ports 2302-2400,6073 on/to their computer, and the clients will need the hosts global IP address.
For knowing what your global IP address is.

Many users tend to use third party software such as GameRanger, Tunngle, Hamachi, and OpenVPN instead of port forwarding.
For the last month I have played this game several times for multiplayer with friends.
have never played dungeon siege in multiplayer b4.
is it fun.
just thinking that everyone that has played dungeon siege b4 ( most likely have played it several times more, me included ) it basekly a pro/veteran. dosnt it get borring ? because of the lack of challenge???
I have found myself downloading some extra maps here and there to keep things interesting, and you can share the maps with friends and actually play the maps together.
ENG:
Hello there. I found a couple of procedures to follow just in case the game doesn't work. Also, I'm sorry about my english, isn't very good. I'll also write this in spanish, so you guys can check the translation just in case something is not clear about the english instructions.
1-) Check the compability: go to the game's local files and there, right click on the Dungeon's siege icon -> properties. Go to "Compability" and choose "Windows 7". Apply changes.
2-) You can check the Legacy Components. Write "Windows features on or off" in the Windows search box and open it. Look for "Legacy components" and open the folder. Click on "DirectPlay" to activate the check box.
3-) Allow the game to use networks in the Window's firewall, otherwise you won't be able to play.
4-) If you have an issue with the multiplayer stuff: in your steam client, right click on Dungeon's siege icon and click on properties. Go to "define launch parameters" and write "zonematch=true".
And last but not less important, I couldn't play because my partner and I had the games in different languages, so, if you're about to multiplayer, check your game's language first and match it. That's all, I hope I've been of any help!
ESPA:
