The neutral physical damage, along with reliable aim and aoe, plus the symbiose bonuses to weapon damage and thoughness make it very very reliable.
Other than that I like the Wat for the bonus movespeed when I just need to stroll around.
I don't like most of the other elemental pets, since some mobs are immune to their damage, so it sucks having to swap pets, I'd reather just stick with one.
Also because it's "inaccurate" with a high amount of bombs per volley. There is bound to be one that will hit a mob, not to mention every single one hitting a boss. Coupled with Bleghmar Treats, it is a massive killing machine. Out-damaging Flux by tens of thousands of damage per second.
Vomma lover here.
I find that aside from the HP, there is very little incentive to melee, trade hits, etc... So a quick wrench to the head, flamethrower blast and some watch slow for 3 second slow downs have kept me trucking in kite heaven for a long time. Trying out new pets in the Tundra, but Vomma is amazing.
While you are correct, on there being next to no incentive to close the distance to melee. At times, certain monsters allow for faster killing if it's just 1 on 1. The Snorble is a fine example, easy to dodge and is that much faster dying if Flux is in on the action. Monsters like the Bamli however, especially when they use their smaller aoe small lighting orb attack, are much more suited to kiting.
Also for me, I no longer use ranged devices. I replaced the wrench with the watch and the blo-pipe with the melee aoe poison injector thingy. One slot always has pots in them, and the other is either the Dirigible or Life Enforcer. While range is an advantage, I find the aoe injector to be better at pulling multiple targets while farming, and the watch for a much more decent 1 on 1 start.
Interesting strategies! I will occassionally go toe to toe, but I've been leaning hard on my pet's AOE capabilities; so that usually means I'm now aggroing a lot of mobs to cluster together to get into Vomma's AOE blasts. I die on occassion, but it also allows me to farm tons of mobs at once. This is especially true of any mob that likes to stay relatively still to launch its attacks.
I aggro 5-10 and kite them around vomma for blasty goodness. I have Glaser I am working on, mostly because I want to see what that beam can do fully powered.
Also intrigued by Slurbs and Lyff's, will see how it goes.
Funny you mention this! Heh! I'm also in the third biome atm, and have replaced the poison injector with the laser leash. Isn't as grand as it could be, but for those annoying Slurbs with all their jumping(so far I haven't noticed if there's a tell for how many jumps they'll make), I activate it, run in one direction and have them jump directly into lasers the whole sequence!
