Why theres gotta be so many mannequins?

I mean, not only this game but almost every and each horror game has this kind of symbolism. I know its meant to affect the subconscioussness of people in some way, but i don't really feel nothing about them at all, no fear, no meaning....perhaps one could add some metaphoric meaning or aspecific one to each situation/game, but what about you guys? whats the real role behind using mannequins?
do they add anything at all into the horror games to you?

Having pediophobia was a horrible experience for me while I played this game xD
