Ending
I hav played through 4 times and also followerd some of the tips on how to get various endings but always get the wife endng. This is so frustrating. I just do not know how anyone can get different endings. I have played a new game on all of he slots and played from chapter one of the first slot. Looked at EVERYTHING, - I think, but no luck.

Same here and I have just given up on getting the wife and child ending. I can see what they were trying to do and that you need to look at specific items, but it feels too vague.

It's very simple really. People just overthink the hell out of it. For wife/child, only do things related to them, and only pick up their stuff. Ignore the paintbrushes, painting, easel, glasses, anything that isn't theirs. For self-portrait, focus on his passion, art. Only pick up his brushes/easel, don't seek out your wife and die to her. Simple as that. People keep picking up the neutral pieces like the muzzle, collar, clock, glasses, alcohol, and I think that is what's ruining it. Also, it doesn't matter what paintings you stare, or how long you look at an object either. I didn't look at any paintings and got all endings. Also played on the same slot after a looping ending. Hope this helps.

Wrong.
1) On my first run i picked up EVERYTHING, every letter, every rat note, every item, just everything.
I got the wife/child ending. So your first part is already not true.
2) I did that and multiple other things for the selfish part. It does not work. It is NOT that simple.

Well, it has worked for me, multiple times. I did only do self'portrait once, but did exactly as I said. It was a speed run, and I only picked up paintbrush/easel and followed the two doors with the paintings. Just try it?

Also, notes, letters, mementos, rat doodles, don't count at all.

If you want me to be more exact.

For self-portrait: I ran the whole time, looking towards the ground. Didn't seek out his wife and die to her at all, followed the left door with the paintings, not the one with the wheelchair, kept running, only doing what I had to, not picking up anything until the broken paintbrushes. I also pulled up the paintings from the pit, used the crank instead of the chain. Picked up the easel near the painting of a dwarf. Only looked at Babyface painting for a split second for the numbers.

For wife/child: I only picked up their items, mirror, perfume, brush, necklace, toy man, etc. Not the portrait he drew of her, however! Ignoring everything else including the dog stuff/alcohol. Went the wheelchair route, pushed her wheelchair, seeked her out at every chance and died to her.

I kept getting spammed with the loop ending any time I did anything else, or picked up ANY of the other objects. Never stared at any object for a long time like others have said. Never stared at any paintings.

What do you mean by loop ending. When I get wife ending and he puts painting in room with all other rubbish ones I can only go into a few rooms but not interact with anything. Then I get back to easel and pull of cover and its over

You can repeat your steps as much as you like, the wife/child one is still "wrong".
LIke i said, for that ending i picked up everything, literally everything and i got this ending.

What do you mean with "ease"?
English is not my main language and i translated it. Isn't an easel the thing you put your background on to draw your painting on? The wooden ones? You can't pick that up.
gothgirl 1 MAR 2016 a las 9:22 a. m.
I mean the easel where the paintings are placed on. At the end when you see the easel you can click on it and the cover comes off to reveal the credits

The wife/child one is not the wrong one. It ended the game for me. The painting of his wife only is the looping ending. Easel pallette, or whatever those things are called, the wooden thing you mix paint on, in the room with the painting of a dwarf. I just did another speed run to attempt to get self-portrait again, and got the wife loop. This time, I didn't pull up the paintings, and used the chain. Seems that really makes the difference. Did everything else exactly the same. I don't want to attempt that ending anymore however, as it makes me feel awful. I read that there are many ways to get the endings, and I am trying to simplify it as much as possible.

Ok, tell you what, i am going to do another run now and i am going to do your way. Exactly your way.
If i won't get the selfish ending i am going to....be veeeeeery angry.

If you don't get it, tell me exactly what you did, step by step. :) I'll let you know what you did wrong.
Smurky Turkey 1 MAR 2016 a las 11:35 a. m.
Ugh, tried again, only the child and wife items, all wife encounters, no other items or watching at paintings, still the wife only ending. What a load of bs.

You won't.
Did one last speedrun out of curiosity, took nothing except brushes and palette, opened the door with the crank, pulled up the paintings, never died.
Wife ending.

So yeah, it's bugged or whatever.
Nymphetta 1 MAR 2016 a las 11:45 a. m.
Give me a list of exactly what you considered wife/child items. We can start there :)

Edit: I'll just do a list instead.

For wife/child: Ring (unavoidable), (ignore sketch of her), brush, piano notes, (ignore dog collar), (ignore cane), violin, (skip glasses, that room in general), phone, horse drawing, birthday hat, baby shoes, toy soldier, perfume, shotgun, (skip muzzle), (skip alcohol bottle), (skip paintbrushes in the 4-way), (skip painting pallette thingee), (skip clock), mirror, (skip rat), bandages, necklace, painting dialogue (her room), knife.

For self-portrait: only the paintbrushes inthe 4 way intersection, and the paint pallette in the room with the painting of the dwarf.

This worked for me (6 times for wife/child), but it seems to be random for others so far. If I picked up anything different in my playthroughs, I got the wife loop ending...

Also, Luca, give me a run through of what you did :) Step by step. Perhaps what I consider a normal thing to do, might not be, and we could be missing something here. I also know how to skip a lot of things that perhaps others do not?
