try it right a way
My laptop, which had Windows fairly recently freshly installed, however CAN run the game without any problems. So I've rechecked if there's any Windows updates hiding away on my main computer, and turned out... there are. Except those updates are hiding away because whenever I try to install them, my computer croaks, and they don't seem to be relevant to this problem, either. Part of it might be that the Microsoft site also seems to have plenty of "page not found" messages since their pushing for Windows 10.
So I sadly had to stop there and for now can only hope for a game fix that doesn't require the Visual C++ 2015 install, or eventually wipe my computer and reinstall Windows. Since so far I'm not having any problems with anything else, I'd rather not do that just yet.
After downloading the patch, i started the game and it installed the Visual C++ automatically. After this, the game doesn't start anymore.
Steam shows the game is "launching", then "synchronizing" and then nothing else.
So i tried to unistall the Visual C++ and reinstall it from the official website: nothing, i got the error "0x80240017", i can't install Visual C++ at all.
I even tried to verify the game files with the steam's option, nothing again, all seems perfect.
Frankly i don't know if reinstalling Visual C++ automatically from the launch will help.
Something else is clearly happening. Give us a shout at support.aspyr.com and we will dig in.
I'm on my own with this one, but for anyone else with the problem, try right-clicking your PC's icon, "Settings" and "Windows Update" at the bottom. Check for hidden and optional updates, too. Apparently the "KB2999226" one is also important for Windows 8.1, and I know I've had trouble with that one not installing before. For some others, the Visual C++ might work after installing those.
I'm just glad I can play the game on my laptop until I can clean up my main computer, because it really is a very amazing game.
