What year is this game based in?
I recently bought this game to play in October to get the Halloween feels, & one thing I wondered about this game is what year is it based it? It looks like it's based in Victorian age England.

I haven't seen any technology in the game. The objects you can pick up for rat poison or whiskey look antiquated. There is a flashlight, so I would set the era for the early 1900s, when they were manufactured for public consumption. Also electricity was in the home, which appeared at around 1890 for the truly wealthy. I would say that the objects are a cross over from the Victorian age England to the Edwardian Era which took place when Queen Victoria died in January of 1901. More like the estate was inherited by the young couple, one was a brilliant artist and the other was an opera vocalist.

Seriously though, you shouldn't ask so many questions; the game is based upon a true story and poltergeists don't appreciate such an inquisitive nature from a young man. There presence is to be known, acknowledged and observed through the video game presentation. It's kind of like the Ring movie. You don't want the spirits to decide to visit your home and give you a personalized haunting experience, do you? I think not. I hope not. For your sake, I hope not...

Her daughter come back with flashlight, which means original story takes place around 1910-1920.

There is a receipt for modern day painkillers in the game.

The receipt has a very clear date.

Those painkillers date back to the 1920s-1930s.

So I wasn't that far away.

that isn't even a receipt for pain killers, are you dumb? that's a receipt for a prosthetic, you obviously haven't been deep enough into the game to find the receipt

on the receipt tramadol is listed, which is practically a brand new drug invented less than 20 years ago

Are you dumb? Is that a rhetorical question? Let me asure you, I am not dumb.

I chose not to post all of the pictures, reciepts, etc, when I was playing through this game both pre and post release based on the "spoiler" issue.
I wanted people to have surprises as they walked through the various rooms and spaces in the game. That is the point of this game, wouldn't you agree?

I'm pretty sure I am aware of what I took a screenshot of , and I would be willing to bet I have at least as much time in Layers as you. ( Verified. You have 11.8 hours in game. I have 50. I got this game 6 months before release.)

The Tramadol patent date brings 1995 as the newest date/era so far.

Good job, ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ Tracy.

just because you found the time to spend 9000 hours playing this boring walking simulator doesn't mean you knew bout the receipt I mentioned, based on your general cluelessness I guess you never found it otherwise you wouldn't be posting the receipt from the beginning of the game for the freaking PROSTHETIC limb instead of the actual receipt that lists the pain meds

and thanks for proving my point with the patent, Tramadol is a modern drug that sets this game as post 90's timeframe

terrible writing really

This was one I did post the screenshot of.September of 2015.

Just because I didn't "wiki" the patent date on Tramadol doesn't mean I hadn't found the dope list. You seem to have something to prove here or maybe you are just seeking an argument. You seem to have a bit of an attitude problem. Are you a troll in training or something?
50 hours isn't 9,000. I take it mathmatics isn't your forte'. There is a caps key and a period key on your keyboard, isn't there? Speaking of terrible writing............

Happy now?
Good.

Ta-ta.

Tramadol was a German pharmaceutical drug discovered in the 1970s. You both are wrong! The pricing of the drug is outrageous, which means that it was being imported. You missed the most important clue of all... the zipcode is 95834. Do you realize that's in Sacramento, California near where I live! Now, the California Board of Pharmacy is located at 1625 N Market Blvd, Ste N219, Sacramento, CA 95834. See how the receipt matches the address?

This might give you a bit of insight as to the developers of the game. The house was most likely inspired by the Winchester Mystery House, in San Jose, California and perhaps even a bit of McKamey Manor in San Diego, California along with various horror genre films and games.

The Fragnostic has already done an analysis of the art on youtube. For your consideration: http://youtu.be/Zfz9BDQ0dVI

Thanks for the post ! I remember seeing this video and it was cool to revisit it.

I hadn't noticed the zip code, that's a nice factoid regarding the house and location. But for the record, my original reply to the OP of this thread was the prosthesis receipt, which was clearly dated (1969). The opioid Tramadol on the drug reciept got past me, as I hadn't really delved into the finer details of patent dates or the zip codes, etc. I basically just got into the walkthrough of the house and the various nuances of the game, the art, the storyline.
Anyway, good post, great info!
Thanks.....

All of the empirical evidence that can be found in various notes and reciepts would indicate the time frame of this walkthrough being set in the late 1990s, but this game sends so many mixed signals with the other various things you find that I would hesitate to set a time period .

Discussions and opinions in these threads tend to become somewhat argumentative. This one seems more informative than argumentative to me.
