Better question, why isn't VR baked into this game?

Its in testing and its a priority. They want to squeeze as much performance as possible out of the natural VR. Its stated that it is functioning but they were not satisfied with the performance as of yet. maybe in next patch.

Also, it is to be said, that long-term reliance on UEVR is problematic, since it only supports UE5 up to version 5.4.

It seems that ACR currently uses precisely 5.4, and so one wonders if this was a strategic choice by Supernova.

It was in the developer Q&A posted on youtube. And in Steam store its labeled as VR because that's what the developers submitted to steam. Its listed as one of the highest priorities in the Q&A.
