PS1 Version vs. PC Version.
I remember playing this for the first time on my PS2. It was my first RPG. What is the difference between the two platforms for the game? Thanks!

Well this newer release has better resoloution so things look much better. Up until a few days ago the PC version had what some would call inferior music but SquareEnix has updated the game since the 26th of this month to include the Playstation music. Really this is currently probably the best one available.
Okay thanks for the update. haven't installed this yet. Still own the 3 disc version. I also saw this game supports steam cloud?

he prob just googled it let me tell you what else is different:
-the script is different including swearing edited
-the game runs a lot faster and smoother
-1080 x 1920 (1080p)
-achievements
-definitely higher quality video
-its got bugs but not game breaking
(sometimes you fall through the world map but as soon as you move youll warp back)
-The save files arent stored in the FF game files anymore
(back them up when you fill a memory card full of saves)
-the menus and text are redone for higher resolution on PC but thats nothing new.
There is prob something else im forgetting but thats the main stuff, someone else im sure will fill in the blanks
-also there a game breaking glitch when you use Cids instant death limit on a boss can crash game

No it's not Steam Cloud, Square-Enix uses their own cloud. You'll need to sign up for a Square-Enix account to play and you'll be able to access your profile from there. It will show your achievments and you will be able to use the character booster, which I forgot to mention earlier. It boosts your character's HP and MP to max and gives you halfway to maxed Gil. It's so you can enjoy the game without grinding if you so choose. :) Hope that helps.
Thank you! I assume theren't any real game breaking technical problems? I know I have more than the recommended requirements.

yes you should be fine but thats why there are 10 memory cards worth of saves when in doubt make a backup, also you can just use save editor thats 10 times more usefull than character booster and wont break your game unless you choose to

I still have my PS1 copy of this game but my new TV displays it badly. So I got the Steam version and I don't regret it in the least. Like Vincento said, there are some minor script and dialoug changes but the story is the same. There are a few bugs in the PC version that weren't in the Playstation release but they are easy to avoid as far as I know.

i still have my black label ps1 copy the original print guide and all the original extra knights figures except sephiroth, yep i load up the ps1 copy on my ps3 when i want to be reminded of how much better it is in 1080p also apparently greatest hits versions of the ps1 game also have the redone script some people claim theirs doesnt so it prob just depends on each copy for greatest hits. also squenix missed 2 Sh words cause they useless

My PS3 won't play PS1 or PS2 games. I still have my PS2 for those. But my Sony Bravia Tv for some reason wont display my PS1 games when I have my PS2 hooked up through the component cables. So I have to switch to AVI cables for that and for some reason my TV displays those really badly.

I wish I could get Sony to tell me how to fix my problem. I find it hard to believe that the TV just does poorly with AVI out of the box. I may have to buy the digital copys of my other FF games on my PS3. I do have the digital version of VIII as I had missed it when it was new.

oh right apparently there is a game breaking glitch using Cid's instant death limit on bosses can freeze the game im told never ran into it like i said just save all the time you do something you dont want to repeat

Here's the differences between the PS1 version and the PC 2012 version:

- Higher quality 3D
- Arguably better quality backgrounds
- Definitely higher quality videos (better than they've ever been)
- Music and sound are identical
- Cloud saves
- Character "booster" (wouldn't bother using this myself)
- Achievements

At the end of the day: This is the best version of FF7 there's ever been. No argument.

thank you guys for adding to the post instead of trolling.
i noticed cut scenes dont look half bad in 1080p didnt know if i should bother posting that,
1 or 2 cutscenes are still the terrible old resolution scenes forget which 2 otherwise all the prerendered stuff holds up great in HD i wonder what 8 will be like in HD
