How many Materia can you have total?

I remember in game someone telling me you can only carry so many materia. How many is it?

Well, in the original it was 256 materia. After that, materia I found would be discarded.

I believe it is I maxed mine at one point cannot remember what it was though ill find out

you can hold 200. You can also have materia equipped to your team members( not just those in your current party). so the max number is 200 plus what ever you have equipped to team members (which can change depending on the number of slots their equipment have)

It all depends on your gear, you can only carry as much as you have slots for.

If I'm not mistaken its 255,... most numerical stats either cap out at 99 or 255. You can slightly expand this number by giving your characters weapons and accessories with materia slots which can give you slightly more room

I thought: 200 in your inventory, plus 16 per character (ultimate wepaon + Wizard Bracelet) totalling 328.
