Problems with alt-tabbing out
Just bought this game last night and every time I go to alt-tab out of it, I get stuck with a black screen and my computer is mostly locked up. If I try to switch to chrome or even steam I just get a black screen. When I switch back to FF7 I get the audio from the game but no visual.

Looking for any help on this issue that anyone else might have. Running Windows 8 if that makes any difference.

Thanks.

Alt- Tabbing can cause issues with any game, I don't see why you need to alt tab out with FF7 as you can access the browser in the game and use steam chat. It usually all depends on the resolutions used but I know I have had this game crash from time to time by alt tabbing.

I'm getting stung by this too. On my Windows 8 PC, hitting the start button also creates problems for this game. I am really not intentionaly hitting start or alt-tab, but if you do it on accident (muscle memory), then it's really frustrating, it locked up my PC pretty bad (couldn'f force a close via task manager, had to reboot). Annoying since I know I'm going to have to re-play through some stuff.

Otherwise pleased with the game, it just bugs me when it crashes so badly and I've lost progress (don't really want to replay much so far).

thiers also an option to play in fullscreen, unclick that box should help your problem.. if its already in windowed mode you dont even need to alt tab.. just select something else

I just play in a windowed setting. in just freezes the game when you click outside of the window and then resumes when you click on it.

thanks for the suggestions - windowed seems to be the way to go. I'll try that.

Ctrl-Esc sometimes works more reliably on some titles.

Not cool. I just got the Materia Overlord achievement and was about to go sell it all to get my max Gil achievement. Countless hours wasted there. A bug that could occur on almost any system at almost any time during the game really needs to be fixed...

Level up "All" Materia and sell it.

You could try running it in compatibility mode, i have had no problems alt tabbing on win7, at least not with this game.

Setting ff7_en.exe to Windows 7 compatibility mode fixed alt-tabbing for me.

Edit: I still have occasional issues with alt-tabbing. I just use windowed mode now.
