How do I run?

Cloud maybe ok with taking a casual stroll through Midgar but I've got things to do! I' swear that I've held down every key on this keyboard and I can't get him to do anything more than walk VERY SLOWLY. Please help....

You hold down the Cancel key.

Hold down the Cancel key to run.
You can also run from battles by holding down the shoulder keys (which mine are binded to Page up and Page down, I forget if that was the default bind for it or not)

Holding whatever is mapped to Cancel is how you run. If you hold your keys to move but find it's not running, your keyboard might be ghosting. Try remapping your Cancel key to something else. Alternatively there's a setting in the config menu (in-game config, not the launcher) that allows you to reverse that control so that holding Cancel slows you down. Just remember there's one point early in the game where you have to walk (sneaking out of Aeris' house) or it won't let you pass.

If the default keybinds confuse you, you can set up your own in the options on the menu before starting the game. My keybinds for example are:

up - W
left - A
down - S
right - D

menu - up arrow
switch - left arrow
cancel - right arrow
ok - down arrow

run from battle - left + right ctrl

Sort of resembles a gaming controller if you think about it.

So if you compare it to a PSX controller meny = triangle, switch = square, cancel = circle, ok = cross (though cross and circle are reverted on psx in only FFVII for some reason)

Plug in an xbox 360 controller like i did :) in which the run (cancel) button is A
