FFVII - L3 Flare question

I was grinding in the northern crater for 5 hours and then got hit by L3 Flare when I used Vincent's limit break which cast Satan Slam on one of the flying eyes (I forget their name).

Of course, I didn't have Final Attack equipped, but I have a question that I can't find the answer to via google...

Is L3 Flare an elemental attack? I would assume Fire based. Or is it non-elemental damage?

If i remember correctly its Non Elemental damage.

Ugh, so the only thing to do is to have a Final Attack + Phoenix combo to counter it?

Guess that'll have to do... Would've loved to use the two slots for leveling other Materia though.

If you make sure you can kill the eyes in one attack they won't use it. They will only use either lvl 3 flare or lvl 4 death if you bring them to critical hp. So if you for example have 4x cut on one character, only use that one to kill them.

Don't think the Safety Bit protects from L3 Flare, since it's not specifically an instant death attack, It's just really powerful.

I don't know for sure, but the best way to test if it's fire-based is to put your life on the line. Set yourself up with Final Attack-Revive/Phoenix, equip a Fire Ring, Tetra Elemental, Elemental-Fire in armor, or something that nullifies or drains fire based attacks, and get hit by it. You'll know then.

Also, the creature in question? It won't cast L3 Flare at all if you don't use any magic. Stick to physical attacks and Command Materia (Mug, Slash-All, Flash, etc.) for that particular foe instead of summons and spells.

Just as a heads up, I used Vincent's Choas limit break and that one attack he does, the Satan Slam, apparently is a magic attack, haha.

I was aware to not use magic on those guys, and I had no idea that Chaos' attack was magical.

Flare & L3 Flare are both Fire-based. So you can Reduce or even absorb it with appropriate materia/armor/accessory :)

Edit : oh and about Vincent Limit, each transformation got 2 attaques, 1 is physical (3/4 to use it) & 1 is magical (1/4 to use it) .

If you're gonna rely on the final attack + phoenix tactic then just make damn sure you have the required MP to cast it, because linked with final attack or not, unless you have the rquired MP you won't cast it.

Anyway, like people have said just stick to physical and you'll be fine, you have things like x2/x4 or flash right? Should make quick work of them.
