Superfast chocobo races?
Heya, I'm not sure which key command I pressed, but during one race I did something that made the entire race accelerate so that it only took place in half the time. How do I repeat this? It'd be nice to have these over faster.

if i remember right on the ps1 u could hold down L1 R1 to speed up the chocobo races...on the pc the keys are what ever u bind Page Up and page Down to

I managed to get the same superfast chocobo race. I can't find any information about the actual key combination though.

If it is L1 + R1, I don't know when to press it then.

Going to try pageup+pagedown then post what controls were actually bound to them.

Pageup + pagedown is the command for fleeing in battle. During the original PS1 times L1+R1 served this feature. During a chocobo race you could press these at the same time or alternatively(Forgot which one exactly) to reduce stamina drain on your chocobo. I don't know if there is a concrete way to quicken the chocobo race itself but that little trick really helps your chocobo to finish faster!

okay, the stamina reduction I know, tried other combinations, but as far as I can tell, the "superfast" race is some kind of glitch that happens at random. Also when it happens, it's next to impossible to beat that black chocobo rider.

happened for me too during only my first chocobo race. and my chocobo was a spinter type, then it back normal, looks more like a bug to me
Sounds like it could be handy

Yeah i just had it happen to me on a brand new Wonderful chocobo in his first race rank C. I hadn't fed him any greens (by accident) before racing. Seems completely random or only under certain circumstances.

At first i thought i had to time R1+R2 when the race started.

happened to me too, the race was like twice faster

Just had the same thing happen to my Rank S Gold Chocobo on his first race of the day... Seems to be related to the first time the races load.

Yeah had that happen too

it seems to happen if you Alt+Tab out of the game and back in, at least thats what I noticed
RiO Jul 16, 2013 @ 3:25pm
If it happens when alt-tabbing in and out of the game, then it's likely Square Enix kludged the frame limiter by linking it to vsync again in some way, instead of using a proper limiter based on a high resolution timer.

(Hey; at least this time they actually implemented a frame limiter...)

I'm playing through the PC version for the first time right now and I noticed this too. It seems to be completely random, although I wish there was some what to activate it on command, as it really makes those repetitive races much more bearable.

One thing I noticed is you can tell if it's going to be a fast or normal speed race while in the initial race entry screen. If your chocobo appears to be running very fast, it will be a normal speed race; if your chocobo appears to be trotting more slowly, it will be a super fast race. Makes no sense, I know.

I can confirm this glitch, it isn't random at all I do it on every single race.

Simply, register to race and while looking at the chocobo stats screen(where you can see your chocobo jogging and the speed and stamina) alt+tab out of the game then move a window by clicking and dragging then when you return to the game you should see your jogging chocobo is now going berserk. The race will now run at super speed when you start it.

This will greatly reduce the time it takes to train up all those chocobo's for breeding.
