DRM is already making me regret pruchasing the game.
Why do you need my Facebook information and ability to post onto my Facebook wall for me to play a game? I should not have bought this. I would have avoided it if the steam page said anything about the DRM on it.

Quite amusing how people consider one form of DRM (Steam), is acceptable, and another (FF single sign in), is not.
Phoenix-co 18 jul, 2013 @ 14:41
If you could only save on the cloud I would have agreed, but since they require it for everybody instead of doing it only for cloudsave users...
(so, back to my other questions)
Phoenix-co 18 jul, 2013 @ 15:01
Well, I think steam DRM is... instead of acceptable, at least tolerable, since I only buy at -60% / -75%. I rip them off as much as they (try to) rip me off.
For FF7 I would even have bought it at full price (even though I have the original FF7 game laying somewhere), but.... not if that mean to be double-DRMed

It isn't DRM, it's a single sign in through a panel that you can keep logged in even if offline, took me 5 minutes TOP, to create an SE account and once it signed in it stayed singed in.

When a game tells you "even if you bought it you can't play except if you..." and can go "nope, you have installed it mode than X times, it's over", then that'what you call DRM

And FFVII doesn't do any of that. Does nothing more than Steam does.

By that logic needing to sign in to GoG to DL your game is DRM.
Phoenix-co 18 jul, 2013 @ 15:43
It doesn't ?
Then just try running it without having a SE account. You can't ? Then they force you to have one, "cant' play except if registered in our database", DRM
And about the number of installations allowed... ok it's only limited if you download it directly from the SE website, not from steam (but it's a SE-DRM nevertheless)
Phoenix-co 18 jul, 2013 @ 15:59
Well... I'm even worse on gog, I only got the free ones on its account, and haven't downloaded even one yet... so I don't really know how it works but I heard it was more "download the installers and do what you want with it, whenever and wherever you want, you have paid for it, we don't care" than steam's big-brothery eye over your shoulder every time you install something, so.... for me, gog is as much a DRM as my local game retailer

Try running your other games without having a Steam account. You can't? DRM.

Like I said, doesn't do anything more than Steam.

Steam got DRM, SE got DRM, 2 layers of DRM for a single, 16 yeas old game.
What do they need it for ? Protecting you against terrorist which may attack you by controlling Ruby Weapon and getting it out of the screen to kill people and steal your candies ?

No, they are just control freaks.
You pay for the game on Steam, you already have to deal with steam DRM, so it's not to counter piracy (witch would be useless since there will certainly be a crack of two within a month to run it offline in hacked form... happened for Spore because of its "always online" DRM, even people who bought it legally used the crack for it and EA finally got to remove it).
It's not just for cloudsave or the "auto-win" feature neither, since they force it even on those who won't use them.

By using Steam your making other developers see that it does work, stops piracy and sells games. So therefore because of YOU (Pheonix-co) using Steam, you are saying to SE, "yes, DRM works, a sign in is fine to me"

it asked me but i used my email then worked

You know that when they get the money and don't see town of "it doesn't work" coming, They would aslo know that it works ? Other publishers on steam sell without additionnal DRM and, you know what ? They continue to sell and make profits.
